Support Forum
I have created a forum with 5 subforums. I do ot understand why the forum name appears twice--once before the subforums and then is repeated afterwards. See attached screen shot. How do I get the arrangement to have the forum title and then list the subforums. There will be no posts to the forum itself. Posts will only be in the subforums if that makes any difference.
well, a parent forum is a regular forum...whats the point of having an empty parent forum? just elevate the 4 subforums up to the next level and you wont have an empty parent...
what you are referring to as as second time is all the topics for the parent forum... the only empty contaniner is a group... are you sure you dont want your four subforums in a group?

Well, I guess the issue is I do not understand the terminology. The codex doesn't really explain it--and how a picture or diagram would really help here! I wanted the parent forum to organize the individual sub forums to make it easier for people to find what they are looking for. I have used this particular arrangement on other forums (not simplepress forums) and it was quite effective.
It is possible there would be topics in the parent but would that make any difference? Wouldn't that parent still be listed twice?
I only have 2 levels . . . so elevating the subforums up would mean they would be at the primary level (in my particular case) and they would not be connected.
Perhaps my usage is unique. I have an online class and the class is divided into work groups. Each group has a name and I wanted all the groups to be together organized under the forum for posting their work.
Do you have a link to an explanation or illustration of the forum hierarchy possibilities?
how many groups do you have?
At the top level is groups... a group is a container of forums... the group organizes forums into logical groupings...
then comes forums... forums are containers of topics or other forums (ie subforums)... any forum whether parent or child forum is designed to hold topics...
then comes topics... topics are containers of posts...
when you post, it goes in a topic that belongs to a forum which belongs to a group... there may be multiple levels of forums before getting to the group...
Seems like your two levels would be a groups and forums... so a group for each class... and then a forum for each work group within the class group... sounds like you have created only one group... you can still set your permissions at the group level including which users can see which group..
look at our main forum display... there are mulitple groups with logical groups of forums with in...
not sure I understand why you think the parent forum is displayed twice... at the top is its subforums... you only see the sub forum name and the last post info... the bottom part is the actual topics that are in the forum... not the subforum, but the forum you are currently visiting....
now, you could leave it like you have, and not get topics in the parent forum... in your sp theme, you can even remove the template tags from the spForumView.php template file that is generating the display... and you wont get topics/posts in the parent forum and wont display the bottom part... but you will have introduced an extra 'empty' level of the parent forum you will go through just to get to the subforum... the template files are extremely flexible...
