To get the error, you would have to have outdated sw, either a theme or plugin... Updating should take car if it as it appears it did...

Wordpress and all Themes & Plugins, Simple:Press and Theme and all Plugins were reported as all up to date.

I can only think that something went wrong with the update of the Online Plugin because not only did it cause the error but I couldn't un-install it or delete it through the interface. The error only went away when I de-activated it and manually removed the containing folder, downloaded a fresh copy and re-installed and activated.

so all is good now?

was the online plugin particularly old?  a long time ago, we had to change the name since it an apostrophe in the plugin name and wp didnt catch updates... but that was some time ago..

Yes, all is fine now. All the plugins get updated whenever new updates appear, usually after a SP update, so they all should have been recent.

It may have had something to do with this error we have been getting lately

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/********/******_html/**-********/template-loader.php on line 48

Not always the same reference or line but very similar.

Usually, if you wait a few seconds and refresh, all continues as normal but I suppose the server could have run out of memory just when the plugin was being updated?

If you are getting a memory error often then you should consider trying to get it lifted. Your host may do this for you properly but you can also try this FAQ workaround:

https://simple-press.com/docum.....of-memory/

Note though that that FAQ need changing. 64MB will be no good now. WP needs more than that. The trick is to make the number bigger than the memory limit you do have now. And that will be shown in the forum admin > toolbox > environment.
