The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it

I recently upgraded to 5.2.5.

Every time I try to visit the forum, whether I'm a standard user or an admin, I get the message: "The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it."

I have tried removing permissions and putting them back into place. There was no change when I did that.

It appears there is 1 row in sfauths, but I'm not terribly familiar with using MySQL through the command line, so I may not be doing it correctly.

upgraded from what version? 5.2.5 only had a couple line change and wouldnt have affected that...

but 1 row in sfauths would be very bad...  not sure what removing permissions and putting back means...  try going to forum - permissions - reset permissions and see if that helps... you might need to re-set up and special changes you made...

if that doesnt help, then take another look at sfauths table and make sure to browse and see how many rows...

also, link to site?

Originally from 4.4.5 to something like 5.1. After seeing suggestions for what seemed like similar problems I went back and checked for updates again and 5.2.5 was available.

I should have said reset permissions. I did that, and then set up the permissions for the forums again.

I'm not using PHPMyAdmin, so I have to run SQL queries to view the DB from the command line. Any hints on what I should be running there to count rows in sfauths?

The site is wilddivinedev.com

select * from wp_sfauths

your prefix might be other than wp_

after resetting permissions, did you actually assign usergroups and permission sets to forums? not sure if that is what you meant by set up permissions again...

That's the command I used earlier in MySQL, and the result was "1 row in set."

Yes, I reassigned usergroups and permissions sets to the forums.

An additional note - when I'm logged in as admin, which from my understanding of the documentation should have access to all forums no matter what, I get the same error message.

but that admin assumptions assumes you have permissions (auths) for the admin to have... if you really only have 1 row, that is the problem... should be many more...

so just to be sure, if you go to forum - toolbox - toolbox, what is the current version and build listed??

I am not understanding at the moment, how you get 1 row of data after resetting permissions on forum - permissions - reset permissions using sp version 5.2.5...

Version: 5.2.5

Build: 9876

I reset permissions again today, and now it's working. It's very strange. Before the most recent update I reset them three or four times, exactly the same way I did today. Was a change made to this with the 5.2.5 version?

in 5.2.3 (5.2.4 no on really saw), the reset permissions was broke... one of the two big reasons for 5.2.5 was to fix the reset permissions (other was an install bug)...

so should be resolved now...
