Hey guys, I run Simplepress along with Wishlist Member. I only have one user level in Wishlist that every member is a part of.

I'd been using 4.3.5 for a long time and went for the upgrade to 5.1.4. I just went through the following sequence:

Upgrade 4.3.5 -> 4.5.1 -> 5.1.4

The upgrade from 4.3.5 to 4.5.1 went fine.

The upgrade from 4.5.1 to 5.1.4 went fine on the surface, but now whenever I try to access the main forum page, I see the following error:

The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it

...and none of the forums show up.

It still lists my forum as having 1100 members, and it still recognizes that there are 9995 posts and 947 topics and top posters and all that data... and the individual forums still exist inside the settings.

I just can't seem to get them to show up when I go to the main forum page.

I've tried from both an admin account, as well as regular user accounts. Same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get the forums to show up, instead of that error message? Thanks!

EDIT: a few extra notes on my setup...

- All wishlist members are set to the default "subscriber" wordpress role.

- I've made sure subscriber is set to default user group of "members" and "members" is set to full access.

- I've set up a new group & forum ("test" and "test forum") and it does not show up for members either (including administrator)... same error message.

EDIT 2: and after checking the error log, I see the following extremely frequently (a few times a minute, spread out over a few different minutes... must be when I'm trying to update user settings or something similar?):

file: /simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-auths.php
line: 71

hmmm...  wonder if you lost your permissions on the upgrade...  have had a handful have this happen for some unknown reason...

can you look at the sfauths table and see if you have any entries... and the sfroles table for entries...

you could go to forum - permissions - reset permissions and do a reset... if you lost something (either of the above empty), it should restore it back to default settings...  BUT you would have to go back and establish the permissions you want on each permission set (no access, guests, etc)...

Checked both tables - they were populated with data, but it appeared to have been settings that I had just recently updated (while troubleshooting).

Resetting permissions did the trick though! Thank you!

Immediately after resetting permissions, the admin user could view all forums... and then I simply needed to re-apply permissions to my forum group. Quick and easy. Excellent!

Excited to take advantage of SP5... SP4 has been rock solid for me the past two or so years! Thank you for all the work you do.

Apologies for that though. As Steve said we had a very small number of users with this issue and have never really got to the bottom of it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi, I am setting up a site with MagicMembers and Simple:Press. I would like any visitor to the site to be able to see the Groups and Forum titles (see attached file "what i would like...."), though only members will be able to view and participate in the discussion topics within any forum. What I see now at the Simple:Press window when I am not logged in as a member is shown in the other attached file ("what every non-registered visitor..."). It is a screen that includes the same error message "The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it" . I am not sure whether this is related to the Permissions settings for groups? Any suggestions for how to overcome this issue? Thanks in anticipation for any input anyone can offer.  - Jeremy

You would setup a permission group or edit an existing one and turn on "Can view a list of forum only"
Then for guests of the forum(s) you would assign them that permission in the forum permissions area.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the quick reply! The permission options I see are:

No Access

Read Only Access

Limited Access

Stabdard Access

Full Access

Moderator Access

I don't see any "Can view a list of forum only" available. Am I missing something obvious? Is it possible to post a screen capture showing where I'll find that "Can view a list of forum only" option?

Many thanks,

Jeremy

Use the sneak peek feature. Let's folks see list of forums and/or list of topics but not any further. They are permissions. Can view forum and topic lists only and can view forum lists only. On forum - components - login and Registration you will can also output a custom message when they go further than allowed or even redirect to a special page such as a sign up page.

Thank you for that suggestion. Where is the sneak peek feature?

In the meantime I accidentally broke the simple:press install by trying to upload the plugin "Image and File Uploader". I ended up with a complex error message (see below). Should I start a new topic to seek help getting out of that one?

Cheers,

Jeremy

It looks like you have the same issue as here.

https://simple-press.com/suppo.....ad-plugin/

You should not have a plupload1 folder.

And Sneek Peek. How do I enable "Sneak Peek"
