only because of it's simplicity and, well, sheer nonsense...

 

avatar... i tried like 3 variations, 20 times, always get the attached notice...what am i missing?????

 

Yes, it's 50px x50 px and a measly 20kb

 

pulling out hair...

Hey Robert,

Please see from the admin menu Forum > Profiles > Avatars, what size limit is yours set to?

Please remember that the size there is in bytes. For example our limit here is 10240 bytes, which is roughly 10kb (10.24kb).

20kb is twice that, although if you haven't upped your limit that might be the problem.
