Tiny MCE causes post field to not work...

When Tiny MCE is enabled, the post field does not work. The user cannot click on it.  The subject is okay, but you cannot add a new post or a reply (anything that uses the editor).

If I disable the plugin, everything works fine.  I have removed the old plugin and re-installed.

I am using most recent Wordpress update.  My site is at http://www.flyinggracing.com/locker and it is members only.  I will happily provide membership access to anyone that registers to help test (or i will provide demo credentials)...

I have waited for many new updates to resolve this and wondered if it was a common issue? But I haven't seen anything. It worked at some time previously, before Wordpress and Wordpress Core Plugin Update to Tiny MCE.

Any suggestions?

Are you using any other wp plugins that might be trying to add something to the tinymce editor? since the wp folks have now encapsulated the wp editor for use anywhere, some plugins have failed to update and make an erroneous assumption that the tinymce editor will be in the wp admin and causes some problems...

Well, I just deactivated EVERYTHING to test, although I think I've tried this before. And, when I did that I included Simple:Press as well.

Then, without thinking it through, I clicked "install" next to the forum plugin and it wiped me out.

So..now i'll be restoring my entire site.  I will get back to you after i'm back to where i started. :(

For it to show 'install' you would have had to 'uninstall' as opposed to 'deactivate'. This will - as it says on the popup confirmation box, wipe the forum data completely.

Let us know when you are back up and running but you most probably have a JavaScript conflict - your wp theme or another plugin - which needs to be fixed. This codex article explains what this means and what to look for:

Not to risk hijacking the thread, but I'm having the same issue.  I followed the link to read about the jQuery conflict, and both libraries noted in that guide load from wp-includes/js/jquery/, so it would seem my problem is something other.

Could it be that I'm running everything through CloudFlare, and perhaps something in the way they're minifying Javascript?

what version of wp please? seems there might be some issues with WP 3.4 since they made some changes to the editor class in wp 3.5...

WP 3.5, and just upgraded to the latest SP today (today was going to be Launch Day for the new forum, so I just upgraded everything SP a couple hours ago).

Also, FWIW, I went into my CloudFlare setup and created a pagerule to prevent those .js files from being cached or minified.  Blew out my caches, reloaded, still no joy.  So I'm leaning toward it NOT being a CloudFlare issue (and yes, I know that CF is rapidly falling out of favor with folks).

Neil, do you have a link to your site?

also, can you try uninstalling the tinymce plugin and then reactivating it?

do you have any wp plugins (or wp theme) that add stuff to tinymce? seems many of these fail to account for the wp editor (tinymce) being able to be used elsewhere besides the create post panel in the admin and they blindly add their stuff... and cause problems when the editor is used elsewhere...

Sure - the link is here.  And yeah, tried deactivating/reactivating - no joy.  Will try uninstalling Tiny altogether and reinstalling to see if that helps.

The theme adds stuff to tiny (but those are mostly shortcode generators), and a plugin or two does as well.  There's an Amazon link button in there (although I'd probably be better off disabling it, I never use it), and I just installed TablePress this morning to make tables a little easier to deal with.  (Unfortunately, I can't simply delete TablePress right this second; it's kind of at the center of a post that just went live this morning.  Otherwise, I'd test and see if that's the source of the problem.)

Any red flags I should be on the lookout for if I'm going to dive into the TablePress code?

Deleted / reinstalled / reactivated TinyMCE - no changes.

However, when I went to upgrade TinyMCE from the original version I had downloaded (1.2 to 2.0.3), there was a fatal error in my log - don't know if it was related.  Details here (new window).
