Hey cathyw,
I wouldn't like to say we are phasing out Default because we aren't, but it is very dated and it's being pushed into our 'Classic' themes category. I'm not 100% sure on the plan, it will be kept up to date with the ability to take new plugins and important fixes, but there are no development plans at the moment to bring the theme up to date.
Instead, we have just launched a new theme 'Barebones' which has taken over as the standard free install theme. It uses CSS3 for a more fluid layout (as Reboot theme does here) making it a lot easier to work with. Currently it's only available with new installs but it will be added for free download to the store in the coming days.
If you would like to continue using Default then I'll happily post up an explanation on how to resolve the column sizing issue, please let me know, and post up a link to your forum as we would need to inspect the CSS to work out what size would be needed. You would also need to download the child theme framework for Default from our store (also free) and set that up so your change wouldn't be lost on future updates to the theme.
Dear Ike, thank you for your detailed response. I would like to change to the more current theme, Barebones, so I won't bother with resolving the column sizing issue with my current Default theme. No sense in using outdated software when there will be another more current option.
I see that Barebones is not available on my dashboard yet. Will I find it there under Themes/Available Themes when it is added for free download in the store ?
When should I check back ? Thank you!
