Hi All,

My customer generates most of their traffic off twitter. They have a few topics that have grown to several pages in length. Instead of tweeting out page 1 they tweet out the latest comment on the topic so visitors can go straight to the latest comments instead of scrolling through the pages.

When they tweet out a link for a page within the topic, if it isn't page 1 the hits don't register. Can you look at this for us to see if there is a resolution as they want the hits to show how popular the topics are and they should be 1000's of hits higher than they are.

Look forward to your reply.

How are they tweeting these links? What are the links coming from? Do you have a sample url?

Is it from out share this plugin?

What do you mean hits and reordered? How and where?

If some other wp plugin, it's probably confused since all forum content appears on single wp page..

Hi Mr Papa,

Thanks for the reply, the customer is using hootsuite with the URL shortener to navigate the visitors who click on the links in the tweets straight through to page 8 of one of the topics.

When a user visits the topics they want the hits to go up but they only seem to increase if a visitor lands on page 1.

I'm referring to the hit counter on the topics not on the forum wordpress page.

Is that any clearer.

Thanks

I will have to review the current code to see what we are doing - it has been in place a long time!. And perhaps open a ticket to get a discussion going for a possible change.

I know it is a bit of a hard one as users also do not want the viewed count to go up if the same user looks at multiple pages of the same topic....

As promised I have opened a discussion. I can see the need for improving this. Just not immediately how best to tackle it.

Thanks for the update. My customer has been tweeting out like this for the last 2-3 years and a new member of staff noticed this issue and identified the cause. This could mean over the last couple of years that the forum topic statistics would be much much higher across the board and make the forum look much busier than it is.

I notice that you offer quotes for plugin and theme development. If it would help bump this one up the to do list I would be happy to offer a small cost contribution for your time on top of my just renewed membership.

Let me know.

Well - as much as I would really like to take your money smile depending on the result of proposal discussions here then it is not really much of a code change. Of course if we fail to agree it here then that might be different!

Hi All,

I'd just thought I'd let you know that I reversed the order on one of our main topics to help the customer see if this would help with their hits counter (as they are tweeting out the links to page 1), this topic is more of an update topic so the users haven't been confused by changing the order.

As mentioned as they tweet out to generate a lot of their traffic the hits aren't registered when the user lands on page 2 or more. Since swapping this topic the hit counter has shot up by 12,000 hits that would have otherwise been lost.

Hope this may help convince you.

Regards

Kenn
