Transfer forum to new site

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question.  But I was wondering if it's possible to transfer a forum from one site to another.  For example I have a forum set up on yourdomain.com and I want to move that forum to mydomain.com.  Is that doable?  If so where are the directions?  Is it hard?

Thanks in advance

Basically the forum will move with the rest of WordPress. You just need to ensure you take the whole database.

When done the permalink will probably need updating. Any non-relative links in posts - i.e., any full urls to other posts and topics will no longer resolve of course. You may also get a few scrambled admin options so they will need checking after the move.

Suppose I just want to move the forum, not the entire site.  Is that possible.

Well yes and no. You need the WP tables users and usermeta at the very least. This IS a Wp plugin after all...

Okay thanks.  Hmm!! I'm thinking we must have done something wrong, then.  This is what we did.

Set up wordpress on new domain. installed simplepress and s2member (i'm using this plugin too)

1. copied every table that starts with wp_sf from the cherylw database to the weppg database
2. copied wp_users and wp_usermeta from the cherylw database to the weppg database

Once that was done, the simplepress plugin disappeared from the list of plugins but their was a simplepress directory there.

We are not sure what happened??? Any thoughts?

Well let's take it one at a time... was the version of SP you installed on the new site exactly the same version as on the old site?
And - when you say you 'installed' it does that mean you activated it and ran through the actual install procedure?

Yes they both were the same version 4.4.5 I uploaded simple press but did not activate it or install it.  Should I have done that first (I was nervous)?  Then copy WP tables users and usermeta.

I probably would have done it that way around but that really doesn't explain the plugin not showing in the plugin list. The plugin list really has nothing to do with SP and is controlled by WP and the WP Options table.

Are you actually certain that it was showing up BEFORE you copied over the tables? It's clutching at straws a bit but I am just wondering if the plugin code itself is corrupted in some way.

How did you upload the plugin to the site? did you copy the zip file and if so have you actually unzipped it? Did you try with the WP zip uploader as that probably wont work. Or maybe use FileZilla which is known to cause many problems? Any of the above?

You know I"m certain I put the plugin there. Now did I activate it and install hmmm that's another question.  I uploaded the plugin via wp using the zip file.  I'm going to try this again and see what happens.  So let me put the steps down

  1. Upload simplepress via wp
  2. activate and install forum
  3. copy WP tables users and usermeta

Anything else!!
