Trying to update from 5.2.6 to 5.3.1 - no luck

Hello again!

I am trying to update and Wordpress' automatic update option isn't working. When I click it, I go to a blank update screen and nothing happens; there are no notifications or texts. It's the same "Update Plugin" page as always and I see everything else as normal, but no message comes up like

Downloading update from ....

Unpacking the update…

Installing the latest version…

Removing the old version of the plugin…

Plugin updated successfully.

I just double checked and all of my other plugins are updating fine. Thoughts appreciated! Should I just manually install as per the instructions for a 4.0 upgrade? Why is the auto update not working? Thanks!

to go from 5.2.6 to 5.3.1, you can just upload the plugin directly over the existing one...

but would like to know why wp auto update is failing... it is wp doing the work after all... but there are some ajax requests in the mix too and sometimes other plugins intercept those responses and issue messages which causes the upgrade to fail..

can you try the upgrade with the browser console open and see what might be reported in the responses?

Sorry for the long delay. I'm still on 5.2.6, now wanting to update to 5.3.4. Having the same issue.

I activated the console, clicked "update automatically" in the yellow notification box in plugins for Simple press and here is what came up - your thoughts appreciated on what is causing the issue! best if you turn off the css warnings - they dont really help and are kind of pointless...

when you do the upgrade, can you expand the first one? need to see what the response actually is... if something is corrupting the ajax response, it should show there...

that looks more like the headers than the response... normally per console entry (for ajax type) you would have params, headers, response, html and cookies... in firebug, they are tabs you can click on after expanding the initial entry...

oddly, server not really responding... getting this:

will have to check back... but I did see some http 400 status codes too... which is interrupting processing...

oddly, the url looks particularly strange there... not the same domain...

Now site is throwing 500 internal server errors...

one thing you could do is just upload the latest version via http://ftp... just upload over the top and you will get asked to upgrade (run the short script)... would get you going... plus you have 32 other plugins/themes with pending updates...
