Support Forum
I had been using WP-Forum (forumpress) for a few weeks and I am trying to import the old posts and whatnot to a simple:press forum I set up using the same wordpress database. I selected the wp-forum importer from the list of importers and filled out all the Source Forum Data: WP-Forum. It keeps telling me I cannot connect to the source database. I imagine it has something to do with the fact that it is the same database for both the new simple:press and the old wp-forum.
Is there a way to make this work? I exported all the wp-forum tables, and the wp-users table into a new database and tried importing from that and it still wouldn't connect/
I'm going crazy here trying to get this to work. Can someone please help me??
Leaving aside the database name and the password - can you tell me what other values you are using please?
By the way - I have never had a 'forumpress' database to test - the script was based upon the original 'wp-forum' plugin although of the data schema is the same then I would hope it would still work.

Thank you for getting back to me.
I am using Media Temple as my host. I have been able to log into my databases using Sequel on Mac OS X, using
external-db.s145620.gridserver.com << -- Host
wp_forum <<--- WP-Forum Table Prefix
wp_users <<--- WP-Forum Tables Prefix for the Users Table
Also chose option: Copy source passwords from user records
and UTF-8 encode results both on and off.
That's what I thought as well, but the docs say otherwise, but I think you right.
I did create another sub-domain a little while ago, and installed Wordpress, then installed forumpress, and then simple:press. I installed the data importer and used the very same information except instead of external. for host I used 'internal...'. I also used wp_ for both prefixes. Amazingly I was able to connect to the database and it read the correct number of users, posts, etc, but failed to import a usergroup or any of them forums.
Take a look below... Still, under the same domain, which is content.spinfuel, I cannot get the importer to connect to the same database I did connect to using the other sub-domain, which is blog.spinfuel.
Here's the report for the blog.spinfuel domain import results. Using the same information I cannot get it to connect on the content.spinfuel domain's installation of simple:press and forumpress. I don't get it.

You have confused me here as to what I am looking at I am afraid. They both look like imported data results so what am I missing here?
But - also let's go back to the beginning. Open up your wp-config.php file for the domain where the source data is coming from. There in that file will be all the settings - db name, password, hostname and table prefix. These are the settings you need for the import form.

Sorry about that, I was trying to make it sound less complicated but I wound up making it sound worse.
Okay, as far as the wordpress config information goes it's all correct, the localhost, or host, is written in php, there is no straight up host anymore.
// ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define('DB_NAME', 'XXXX');
/** MySQL database username */
define('DB_USER', 'dbXXXX');
/** MySQL database password */
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'XXXXXXXXXX');
/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', $_ENV{DATABASE_SERVER});
/** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */
define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
All of that information is correct. The problem is I am not able to create a connection from the plugin sp-import to the database using that correct information. It continues to give me a "cannot create a connection" error.
What I meant to convey in my last post was that I was able to connect to that database while using a completely different wordpress/simple:press/sp-import set up on another sub-domain, with the very same login information.
I'm going to wipe simple:press and the importer from my main sub-domain and start all over.
You're not going to believe this. I solved the problem and it was so sneaky I haven't been fooled by it for at least a decade... in the text box for the host name there was an empty space AFTER the host name. I got rid of the empty space and it worked perfectly.
Thank you for pushing me along, I had about given up.
Check those EMPTY spaces!

OMG, you saved my day. I had the same problem. It is finally connected and imported the data.
But now I have another problem. I have 2 forum pages on my website: http://easy-exposure.com
One still has Mingle forum and other one is empty. Do I have to activate SP forum somehow, for it to show up?
