Is it possible to have two separate installations on the same website ?

Afraid not. It just wouldn't work with the page and WP rewrite rule engine.
Might I ask what the use case would be?

I'm trying to set up an Exchange & Mart on My website http://www.theblackpigsblog.com

not sure what exchange and mart means... but as Andy indicates, one simple press install per WP install... so you could install second copy of WP in subdirectory of first and achieve it... you could even make the forum appear as the home page of the second site... but, would still be two separate logins...

So if I set up another WP/Simplepress , can I import members from the first site so they don't have to re-register ?

Yes - you could - but then that would not help with new users registering.
When I asked for a user case I was really meaning what is the rationale behind having 2 instances of the forum. I was simply wondering id there was an alternative to that model.
