I actually have the same problem. Users can't update anything on their profile, they receive a "null" response. They can't even change the password, nor the signature or the avatar.

I just updated to the most recent version and changed the theme (to reboot).

same problem?  so the ajax response is being hijacked? is it redirecting with the httpxmlrequest to the main page???  what do you mean by null response (since not part of original poster discussion)???

you mention three things that cannot be changed... is that all or is it anything?  can you view the permissions on a forum by forum basis (will be best indication if same problem or not)...

this is what we see (no matter the user role)

It happens only when you try to update something on your profile. I can see the permissions.

OK - so not really the same thing at all. And that response is very, very weird. But I still favour this being an AJAX issue which is about the only way one could explain a 'null' - although I remain unaware of what is supplying the 'null' term.

So the first thing to check is for script errors. Can you use the web browser's console to look for script errors? You need to load the profile form and then try and save something to see what gets reported. There are some tips here on how to use it in case you do not know: https://simple-press.com/docum.....r-console/

Two other quick questions please. Firstly - who are your hosting company and secondly - do you have the mod_security library installed on your server (you may need to ask your host)?

Ok guys, I checked with my host, and here's what a support rep. said:

I double checked on the server logs after testing the site and didn't see any output in the error logs or the apache logs.

We reverted back to WP 4.6 in an effort to see if we could replicate the issue in an earlier WP installment but now I get a Downgrade Warning in the Forum panel in the WP Dashboard and now my forum is out of commission. I have no idea where to go from here.

Any other ideas, guys???

I can probably talk you around the downgrading bit not really sure it will help you. You will have to manually edit a database record. Can you do that?
Remind me what version of SP you were using here

Hang on... if you only changed the WordPress version that would not be enough to cause a downgrade warning in SP. So have you downgraded that as well. And if so I will need that version number as well.

WP 4.6 and SP 5.7. Although, I never asked my host to downgrade SP. I've got a backup of my DB from 9/1 so if we're about to hurt things on my end, I can do a restore.

But is 5.7 what you are using now or what you were using previously? I.e., what are you wanting to downgrade both from and to?

Take a look at the file sp-control.php in the root folder of the SP plugin. See the defines for SPVERSION and SPBUILD. Note them down.

In your database in the prefix__spoptions table are two records named 'sfversion' and 'sfbuild' - they7 are probably records 1 and 2. They need to be set to the same numbers you find in the sp-control.php file.

This is getting a little too complicated for my comfort level. I have no business or interest in playing around in the DB as I don't trust my level of expertise in that area. Any chance you guys can do this for me?

And btw, I'm currently running SP 5.7.
