I'm just getting to use this plugin for the first time, so if I'm missing something please bear with me.

I had Sub Forums set up under Main Forums.  I noticed some of them were out of order so I used the Forum Ordering  section to drag and drop.  Guess what, things won't drop and stay where I want them to.

I have Forum Sections set up and all I can do is move them under the sections, however I see no solution to put a subforum in the right place.  Is this a Bug?

This uses the built in WordPress core functionality for drag and drop - as used on menus for example. I would think that if you have a problem with it then there may be a script conflict with, perhaps, another plugin, Rare in the admin but not unheard of.

If you know how to use the script console in the browser tools then this would report any errors encountered while trying the operation and would , perhaps, give us all something to look for,.

Thanks. Could you give me an idea of where to look for this.  Is it the View Page Info that you refer to when you right click on the page.  Thanks

No. And each browser is a little different. In Chrome (OSX) - for example - it is under View > Developer > JavaScript Console.

When you do find it also make sure you only have 'errors' being shown. There is little point is looking at warnings as well.

I got that working and the only error is:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)
tweet_button.7f8347f02bb0ebbacdf7abc023d3665c.en.html:1 Consider using 'dppx' units, as in CSS 'dpi' means dots-per-CSS-inch, not dots-per-physical-inch, so does not correspond to the actual 'dpi' of a screen. In media query expression: (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 1.5), (min-resolution: 144dpi)

Is this a possible reason for this issue?

No - as it says that is some tweet button graphic missing - probably from another plugin you are running.

Let's confirm a few things first. Do you know how to use the drag and drop ordering tool? This is the same as the menu builder within your WordPress admin. Move up and down or left and right. As it says in the popup help.

If you have a large number of forums then it is better to use the ordering tool available against each forum group in the main forum listing panel as a large number of forums can blow the server max post variables setting if it is too low. Unusual but possible.

But lets make sure you do understand how it works first. It is easy to misunderstand that. And you do need to be a little careful as with all drag and drop operations. Wait for the wire frame to appear and drop it into that.

Thanks. Yes I understand that but some of them are not doing what they are told.

I move them, and then save the ordering but some of them go back to where they were?

And are you trying this using the forum group level ordering option as suggested?

No, no…

I was suggesting above that you try this ONE GROUP at a time. From the Manage Groups and Forums select the order button over on the right for one forum group.

By the way - which version of Simple:Press is this as we do know we had some problems with 5.5.1 under certain circumstances. These issues were fixed in 5.5.2.
