Hi,

During the upgrade from 5.2 to 5.2 Build 9495 the upgrade appears to stall and it does not complete the upgrade.

Can I go back to 5.2

Thanks

Ian

Sorry, not following. 5.2 to 5.2?? Revert back to 5.2? 5.2 is our latest version...

And if you did upgrade, you can always go back if you did as we always highly recommend and made a db backup.

But better to figure out what happened, fix and move forward. As detailed in the wp updater, a significant number of the plugins now require 5.2 because of performance improvements.

I didn't make a backup - previous upgrades have always gone smoothly.

The WordPress Updates page shows the following

Simple:Press
You have version 5.2 installed. Update to 5.2 Build 9495. View version 5.2 Build 9495 details.
Compatibility with WordPress 3.5: Unknown

I assumed the previous reference to 5.2 was a different build. It must have been 5.1.

As the upgrade failed I have tried a few times

I could restore a system backup, but it is a few days old - so I would rather explore other options if there are any.

Thanks

Ian

I am having the same problem.  When I click on the "Perform Upgrade," I get the yellow box saying "Upgrade is in process - please wait" and the spinning circle, but it hangs there forever.  If I interrupt, it just takes me back to the "Perform upgrade" button on the upgrade page.

(site is deepesthealth.com and upgrading from the most recent version - all working fine until now)

Eric, does not sound like same issue...  unless yours also wants you to upgrade from 5.2. to 5.2...  If not, can you open another ticket (or I can just move) so as not to confuse the two?

Ian, not sure how it would show you 5.2 to 5.2... quite odd...  of course 9495 is the build for the one and only 5.2 version...

how does it not complete the upgrade?  do you get any messages??  should give you a build number it failed on...  can you look in your db?  at the sfoptions table... look for option name of sfbuild and sfversion... what are they?

As Eric says "When I click on the "Perform Upgrade," I get the yellow box saying "Upgrade is in process – please wait" and the spinning circle, but it hangs there forever.  If I interrupt, it just takes me back to the "Perform upgrade" button on the upgrade page"

There are no messages

The build is 9150 and the version 5.1.4

Thanks

Ian

Do either of you guys know how to use Firebug for Firefox - or know how to use the javascript consoles that come with most brosers these days? Because I think we need to see if any script errors are getting triggered so we can trace this behaviour further.
It is pretty uncommon (second instance out of a couple of thousand upgrades so far) so we need to find what is unique about your sites that are causing this. testing for script errors is a good place to start...

The upgrade script is causing an error but it is hard to tell quite where as all the main javascript files seem to be being loaded from some sort of bulk loader. Generally these can cause problems in themselves. So I can not tell you which component is causing the error but there is an error being thrown which is then stopping all of the scripts from working.

I CAN tell you that a plugin named 'category sticky posts' is loading the jQuery UI Widget library without abiding by WP protocols and API. Why on earth this is being loaded on the forum upgrade page is anyone's guess but clearly the authors of this plugin have not checked when and where it gets loaded. But the simple fact that this library code is now being loaded twice and, in all probability the plugin is providing an older, out of date version - then this might actually be the cause and my first step would be to remove it and try the upgrade again.
