Hi guys.

I have updated WP to 3.5. A few plugins have been updated too, but SP is not working.

After updating the files, the system requires the dB to be updated. I proceed as I normally do and the page turns white, "Simple Press is being upgraded" and that's it!

The page doesn't move anymore and nothing gets upgraded. Therefore, the forum is offline.

I looked at the server errors log and found this:

[Wed Dec 19 09:20:10 2012] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] (12)Cannot allocate memory: couldn't create child process: /opt/suphp/sbin/suphp for /problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/xxxxxxx/public_html/index.php

[Wed Dec 19 09:20:10 2012] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] (12)Cannot allocate memory: couldn't create child process: /opt/suphp/sbin/suphp for /problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/xxxxxxx/public_html/wp-cron.php

Any idea about what I can do?

Thank you very much.

I would guess that if you are running out of php memory performing tasks like WP Cron then you could well be also running out upgrading SP. I would start by seeing if you can set more - look at our troubleshooting FAQ for one possible method. But you may need to talk to your host to ask them for more to be allocated if they are willing.

You may also be able to run the upgrade by reducing the memory being used at that moment - i.e., by deactivating some other WP plugins for the duration of the upgrade (very short!) but long term you probably need to address the issue.

Andy, I deactivated every single plugin, but I still cannot upgrade SP...

Also, where do I find the troubleshooting FAQ? I am becoming too old...eek

Sorry - on our Codex (http://codex.simple-press.com/.....of-memory/ - note you need to login to the codex separately).
But perhaps the memory - while an issue - is a red herring. Unless you are seeing more memory errors with each upgrade attempt. It could be a script conflict of some kind.
If you have all the Wp plugins deactivated then you may as well go the whole hog and try switching to the default WP theme to see if that iP an issue.

can you shoot us a temp wp admin account with sp admin capabilities via pm?  if so, we can take a closer look... if that works, pm them to yellow swordfish, mr papa and brandonC...  and link to this topic so we know what its about...

Steve, thank you for your offer. But I have already contacted the hosting.

They say it cannot be a problem of php memory as the server has 128 mb.

Therefore, I asked them to reinstall the backup from yesterday just to have everything the way it was.

After that, I will try and upgrade everything and see how it goes. As soon as ready, I will set up an admin account for you.

Thank you once again. wink

Steve, I was reading here and there and it seems the problem is WP 3.5.

A lot of people had problems after upgrading to the new version of WP.

My hosting reinstalled the back up and of course everything is working fine. Therefore, just to be on the safe side, I will not upgrade WP nor any plugin.

Will wait for a solution, keep on looking on the net hoping to find a good one. wink

unfortunately, any major piece of software has some upgrade issues when release to a widely disparate group of users with a myriad of potential server configurations... makes testing really hard...  I know wp is working on a 3.5.1 version now...

but worth pointing out that sp 5.2 does not require wp 3.5...  it works fine with wp 3.3 (should but not tested) and wp 3.4 (tested)...
