Support Forum
Hi,
At 12:10pm est on February 21, 2016 I updated to SimplePress 5.6.4 automatically from the WordPress dashboard/plugin updates. The plugin went through the correct process of downloading, unpacking, installing new version, deleting old version then informing me that it was installed correctly as well as reactivated successfully.
I clicked the return to plugins page knowing that I would have to update the SimplePress plugins and probably the SimplePress database and when I did, it showed that SimplePress is NOT activated. It shows the correct version from the update as 5.6.4.
I stopped and did not click ACTIVATE for fear that all the work that had been put into two years of Forum organization would be rendered worthless. I believe it's acting like a fresh install of the plugin.
What do I do? If I click activate will it see the old database on my webservers? What happens if I lose everything? I know that sometimes these things happen, but I've not ever seen any issues like this with SimplePress, it's generally very dependable and easy to run. Is this something other people have experienced or you as plugin authors are familiar with? If so, what should I do?
I am running WordPress vs 4.4.2.
I am at a standstill waiting for your reply, suggestions, and/or solutions to prevent having to complete rebuild our Forum and how to make sure prior posts and topics are not deleted.
Thank you,
Bob Gangwer

No - I don't think I have heard of this happening before. WordPress is fully in charge at that point and takes on the task of reactivating so somewhat strange.
I can personally think of no reason why you should not reactivate. But I would respectfully remind you that every rule in the book - and mentioned by WordPress many times - is that it is always wise to produce a DB backup before any updates are made...
