Is it really default?  or a customized version?

you can look at the spTheme.txt file in the default theme folder for the version...

I looked under Themes and it says the current theme is:

Default 1.2.16

There is something that my designer had customized (I forgot) that is now looking different. I had wanted a "Like" button. So she took the "Thank" button and made it say "Like."

Now the button doesn't say "Like" anymore. The button says "Thank" but if I click it, it says "The following user(s) wish to say to [name] that they LIKE this post".

I have not written to her yet. I have one other question to ask her (unrelated to the forum) and I want to send her just one email.

spTheme.txt will be in wp-content > sp-resources > forum-themes > default.

I'd be interested to know what they've done, as if something has been put in place and it's now reverted that would suggest that it's either not a child theme, or that the plugin / core has been edited itself.

If you're not expecting a reply any time soon but wanted us to keep looking, could you grant us access to an admin account so we can see the forum back end?

in post #13, it sounds like you perhaps modified our default theme?  if so, you will always lose those changes when you update the theme...  if you make changes to our themes, we strongly recommend using a child theme (https://simple-press.com/docum.....ild-theme/) or a custom theme (https://simple-press.com/docum.....g-a-theme/)

Thank you both for taking a look and for your follow-up comments and questions.

I'm sending the email today to the developer. I'm also going to give her my credentials for this SP forum in case she wants to look at this thread. I don't know if she'll do that but it might be a lot clearer than what I write in my email. 🙂

The icons are nice-to-have but not urgent. I'd rather wait to hear from her.

Yesterday I had an issue with the forum freezing up on me two different occasions while I was typing a long reply. Perhaps there's a character limit that I exceeded, I don't know. Now I am writing my replies off the forum, then copying and pasting into the forum, in order not to lose my work again.

I don't mean to muddy the waters by bringing that in. If it happens again, I'll open a new thread about it.

Regards,

Teresa

Yes certainly, if it does happen again open a new topic. It's possible it was down to a timeout or some other localised issue if it took a long time, but just out of interest how long was the reply?

Let us know how it goes!

I couldn't do anything. Nothing on the page would work. I was able to open the forum in a different browser tab but in the first tab, everything was still frozen. I couldn't copy what I had written so far, I couldn't scroll, I couldn't do anything except (fortunately) close the tab.

Since I lost what I was writing, I don't know how long it was. But I would say more than 500 words.

I wondered if there was a word limit or character limit -- but if so, it wouldn't have frozen the entire forum on that browser tab -- it would have just told me I exceeded the wordcount limit.

Thanks again.

Regards,

Teresa

Definitely sounds more likely to be a local issue. Might be worth checking your browsers add-ons to make sure nothing malicious is running, and of course make sure it's up to date.
