After upgrading to the latest version of SP and the database as well, now my forum theme is broken and I do not see an SP theme at all but just a lot of jumbled text on my forum page...any thoughts?
Please be gentle, I am not a WP expert and picked SP because of the work "Simple".

hard to say without forum access... but are you using the combined css cache? looks like a file permission access perhaps?
first try going to forum - toolbox - hourskeeping and try clearing the combined css cache and js cache...
we see that sometimes if the server is not allowing php processing of css files... but if it was working before, that is not likely the issue...
