When I first set up my site, I changed the defaults from wp to tswp. But when I upgraded to v5, the wp tables were added.

when you changed from wp to tswp, how did you do it?  and did you update the wp-config.php file to tell wp to use the new ones?

When I first installed WordPress, I changed my db prefix, yes. But when I installed SP, I didn't do anything. When I upgraded to v5, I clicked YES when asked if I'd like to move my forum tables to new location to be in compliance (I'm paraphrasing). So ultimately, NO, I didn't change any table prefixes recently. However, it appears that SP has created new tables with a wp prefix, ultimately giving me a second set of tables. frown

sp uses the wp db prefix defined in your wp-config.php file...

so how, explain the mechanics, did you change your db prefix?  and when you did it, did you change all the tables in your db, not just the wp tables?

I redefined the prefix in my wp-config file when I was setting up the site. Then I renamed the standard set of tables to match. Every new table (until now) has been created using my special prefix (tswp_).

sorry, just not understanding... when you install sp, it will use the prefix defined in the wp config file...

were you upgrading or installing? if you already had the forum in place, and then changed you prefix and tried and did not change the forum tables too, then you upgraded, it probably said it was a fresh install...

bottom line, sp uses the prefix defined in wp config...

I was upgrading. I did not change my prefix at that time (only when I first set up my website). My old forum tables were created with the custom prefix. But when I upgraded, new tables were created with just a wp prefix.

Sorry if that's not making sense. I tried to upload a screen shot, but after about a dozen tries, gave up.

Can I give someone access to take a look-see behind the scenes with me? I could do some screen sharing, if you're avail?

Which new tables please?

SP uses whatever is returned by the $wpdb->prefix property which is itself gleaned from the setting in the wp-config.php file. And I can guarantee you we would in no way assume a 'wp_' prefix either.
