OK. The important thing is to work out why it did not create the necessary folders but we can return to that. If tt happens - which is rare - then it usually comes down to a permissions issue.

Ok - in the unzipped install file in /simple-press/sp-startup/install/ you should find a file named sp-resources-install-part2 and in this file are three folders that need to go in the wp-content/sp-resources folder so you should be able top move those folders in. They are 'forum-plugins', 'forum-themes' and 'forum-language'.

Since I reinstalled the plugin files I didnt find the unzipped direcotry. but I did find a sp-resources-install-part2.zip which I extrated into the sp-resources directory. now when I visit the forum page, this is the error I get.

Warning: fopen(/f5/geekgardener/public/wp-content/sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /f5/geekgardener/public/wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-plugins.php on line 722

I guess I need to copy these js files as well. I am unable to find their location in the directory tree of SP.

As suggested - you almost certainly have a permissions issue on the wp-content folder. All folders should have a permission pf 755 and files 644 - I am supposing yours are not.

My host is nearlyfreespeech.net and appears that there are some permission issues as you pointed out.

Is there a way I can re-install the plugin ,so that it will copy all the files again by itself ?

Really appreciate the support so far. thanks.

To be honest not that I can think of.  The important thing at the moment is to protect the data so I think manual permission setting and copying is the best policy.

Ok. I updated the storage locations with directories that are "Write-OK" .now the "Storage location" page doesnt show any error. I also added sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js and sp-plugin-styles-all.css to wp-content directory since I got this error

Warning: fopen(/f5/geekgardener/public/wp-content/sp-plugin-scripts-footer.js) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /f5/geekgardener/public/wp-content/plugins/simple-press/sp-api/sp-api-plugins.php on line 722

Now the above error vanished. When I visit the forum it the error I get is

"The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it"

Check your "wp_sfauths" database table. Do you have more than 7 entries (or any at all)?  I'm testing an upgrade from 4.4 to 5.4 and discovered that the wp_sfauths table got created but it didn't get populated. Perhaps the spa_setup_auths() function needed to be run during the upgrade process?

Peter,

I just checked the wp_sfauths and found only one entry in that. Am I missing the other entries?
How do we add them now?

You can run "Permissions > Reset Permissions" and then set up your forum permissions again.  I'm not sure whether there is an automated solution other than that.
