Hi, I am using an rc version of 5.0 and want to upgrade to the newest release. I would just do this through the regular wp plugin page? no need to deactivate or anything first? Also, there is a member on our site with pretty long name. It is fine everywhere except in topic view, basically the topics they start are larger(taller) than others. I have looked through the overlay in the 5.0 theme that is being used but cant seem to locate the font sizes for members information in topic view? There is a section "Misc Font Sizes" with a line $UserInfo is this it?

yes, you can just update through the wp updater...

you say topic view, but want to make sure you really mean topic view... thats the list of posts in a topic... or do you mean forum view, this list of topics in the forum? so will answer assuming you did mean topic view...

two options for the long name...

one, decrease the font size of the name as you indicate... you could us $userInfo but that would affect the size of all text in that user info area (name, rank, registered, etc)... you would probably be better off adding a new styling to the main style file for .spPostUserName and it will only affect the username...

two, change the column widths... that is, give the user info 'column' more width... our supplied themes use 15% but you can change it to whatever you want in your sp theme topic view template file.. then adjust the content 'column' down a bit...

as always, we highly recommend that you edit your own theme and not one of ours to not lose changes on upgrades... see http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/ for help.

Thanks all useful ideas to change the user name size. I did mean topic view. The name only causes a problem when viewing lists of topics people have started. I have seen the name problem on this forum where the user name who started the post is too long so it drops to the bottom of the topic because it can't fit with the arrow there. Nothing major regardless. I do have another question though about updating from a 5.0 rc. I see that you guys say to update the core, theme, and plugins all at once. Does this happen automatically when you update through the wp updater? Because I see the option to upgrade sp and  then a seperate option below for the theme but no sp plugins can be updated unless you are in the sp toolbar. after updating sp through wp, should I upload the updated plugins via ftp before performing the sp update on the sp toolbar? I am slightly confused with this. Lastly, if I update the rating plugin will I lose all the rating data that is already there? Thanks for your help and time in advance.

you cannot do them all at once...  you can update core...  or you can update one or more sp plugins... or you can update one or more sp themes...  but not all at once... just not the way the updater is set up...

but when you visit the wp updates admin page (under dashboard), you will see what I am talking about...  update the sp plugin itself... then go back to the update page and update all the sp themes... then go back to the update page and update all the sp plugins...

updating will not lose any data as that is all stored in the db...
