my forum still has version Version 4.4.4
Is an upgrade possible and if so how please?

Yes you can upgrade, but 5.0 requires wp 3.3+ which you must not be using since that version of sp is not compatible with wp 3.3.
If you want to upgrade to sp 5.0 you will have to upgrade wp too.

My wordpress version is up to date I believe, it's 3.4.1
and is working with the simple press Version 4.4.4 .
Where do I find instructions please to do the upload?
I read somewhere that I can only upgrade from 4.5?

Well, I there are things that won't work. 
Give me couple hours to get home from airport and will post a link to 4.5.1. You will need to upgrade to it then to 5.0, and but yes automatic.
Please, please make db copies before each step.

you can get 4.5.1 here: https://simple-press.com/downl.....php?id=401
upgrade to that first... then grab 5.1.2 from the download page and upgrade to it...
to be on the safe side, as I mentioned, please make some db backups as you progress in case something goes wrong... always a good idea when upgrading wp or plugins...
