It has been doing for the last 14 months that I have used Simple Press.

I had no idea that it's pulling urls in the forum as http://www.yoursite.com/forum/.....ouncements and it's pulling ajax like http://www.yoursite.com/index......stuff=here

.No joke, Just Surprise. With the /forum slufg there the URL makes no real sense. So big surprise. I will try it I promise.
Bit I see that you lose the CSS whichever way you play it.

wait.. you think: http://www.trafficbrowser.com/.....a443190794
is the correct url? that is absolutely the wrong address... UNLESS you have wordpress installed in a subdir of the site root called forum... it is trying to load the index.php of the wp root directory - its not loading a simple press file... you would then need to have the page slug after 'forum' for the wp page the forum is displayed on... of course, if you are displaying that page as your front page, the simple http://www.trafficbrowser.com/forum will load the forum....
is this the case for you? if not, that url is wrong...
