I saw that SP had an upgrade available (including all SP plugins) so did the normal process. All SP plugins upgraded fine. But, when I attempt upgrade of SP itself, it hangs. If I go to the upgrade page and press the blue "perform upgrade" button, I get the yellow box telling me the upgrade is in progress, but it never finishes.

there are no messages what so ever?
can you check your error log? might be something simple like running out of php memory...
also, do you have firefox? and firebug? if so, can you try the upgrade with the console open and see if any errors are reported? might need to the look at the http response too...

Can I find the previous build from just before this upgrade somewhere? Have tons of people complaining already.
Also, do I need the new plugins and themes to get this to work now?
Could that be the problem?

can you check your error log? might be something simple like running out of php memory…

Got it to work. All I had to do was upload the theme. LOL

Are you talking about the Error log for Simple Press? I can't access that screen. If something else, please let me know. I don't have Firefox and Firebug, but I can get them. I'll check it out. But, if you have a minute, do get back to me re: error log.
Oh, and no - there are no error messages displayed on the upgrade screen.

no, I mean your php error log on the server... usually can get to via your server control panel, ie cpanel...
did you also update the plugins? if not, can you try that first?
