Support Forum
My members need to be able to (and used to be able to) upload PDF, Zip, and other file formats.
The new forum software provides a place for "other file types" and I've made sure that both PDF and pdf (upper and lower case) exist in the list of accepted extensions.
But when anyone tries to upload a PDF they PDF files that they browse to are grayed out (it's looking for image files). So I added PDF and pdf to the acceptable image extensions just to see if that would work. It allows a user to pic a PDF document ... but quickly figures out it's not an image because it is trying to determine the image size for a PDF ... which has no image size.
So how do I fix things so that my members can get back to uploading other file types? I've searched the forum for "Error 113" and nothing came up.
I just noticed that your forum has "Upload Attachments", "View Existing Image Uploads" and "View Existing File Uploads" buttons. I only have "Upload Attachments". How do I enable these other buttons? Is that part of the problem or unrelated?
Thanks!
The new buttons 'View existing...' are not yet available and are here for testing purposes only and wouldn't be related to your issue.
You say when you have pdf only in the 'Other File Types' panel and not in the image or media files panel that when someone clicks on 'Upload attachments' and then 'Select files' that there are files that are grayed out and they can't be selected?
They should be able to select any file in the popup/browse window but if not allowed they will be shown something like 'File Extension Error'
have you given users the permission to upload other files???
of course you cant list a pdf as image because it will think its an image as you found out...
as Brandon says, the uploads viewer is a new plugin that we are testing out here... It should be released some time after 5.1 releases assuming testing goes well...

I'm using v5.0.5 with WP 3.3.2
My "Members" Group has "Standard Access", and all upload options (images, media, and other files) are green when I view Permissions>Manage Permissions>Standard Access>Edit Permissions.
If I remove PDF from the available image extensions, PDF files are grayed out for everyone (including me as an admin). And I should have all options enabled.
Is there a button I'm supposed to be using other than "Upload Attachments" for non-image files? I don't think so because I can see that your "upload attachments" button seems to allow zip files and images.
If I click on your "upload attachments" button I see "Image Upload Constraints and Types" and "File Upload Constraints and Types" but when I click on my "upload attachments" I don't see any information about file uploads at all (again, as admin).
well of course if you remove pdf you wont be able to upload... the only button in play for adding an upload is the 'upload attachments' button... the browser you get and what constraints you see will be determined by your machine type, os and runtime you end up using (can hover off the graphic in upper left to see runtime).. its all based on your machine...
on forum - integration - storage locations, is the uploads location for other files valid and writable?

I have the same issue. When including PDF in the image upload options on the backend, a warning comes up when attempting to upload a pdf or PDF.
Angelina-Baker.pdf: Error 113 - Unable to get image size information
What I want is for users to upload a pdf as they do image files and for it to auto insert into post content as do images.
Hope you don't mind me testing uploading a pdf here to see how it shows up:

OK, same as our site. I would love a way to show the image as with Image files.

Hey fiddlerman,
I'm not sure about having a .pdf display a thumbnail, it's considered an 'Other File Type' in the admin panel which only has the option of being inserted into the post content as a link. I'll leave that for Andy or Steve to add to!
But as for the part of uploading .pdf's, have you got 'pdf' in the 'Other File Types' field on the right in Components > File Uploads? And have you checked to make sure the .pdf you're trying to upload is within the size limit also set in that panel?
Just confirming the basic stuff first..
