I was at "Member Information" trying to delete a bunch of users.  I checked several boxes and selected the "Bulk Action" delete. Then I got:

"User deletion is not allowed from this screen."

Then I tried to delete just one user and still got the error.

How do you delete users?

Well the first thing to say is that does not look like an error to me. Looks like an informational statement. Second thing is that that is not being generated by Simple:Press - not a message we display.

My guess would be that you have another plugin active - possibly something to do with memberships? - that is intercepting the delete call and stopping it happening.

All that SP delete users routine does is pass control back to the normal WordPress user deletion page (i.e., the users section of the WordPress admin) as user management is not a forum task but a website level task. So you could see if you can delete them there which is al SP does. Or - hunt down the plugin that is intercepting the delete command as it clearly wants to take control of the function.

I don't have a membership plugin and I'm thoroughly confused by all this.

What do you think about doing a completely separate install in a sub domain?

The site will be a local news site and I'm sure I'm going to have to use all sorts of plugins and it seems like keeping the forum on a separate install would eliminate a lot of current and future problems.

Would it be hard to move the current forum posts?

UPDATE:

I just saw "Default usergroup for awpcp-moderator:", so you were right.  But that's a plugin I want to keep, classified ads.

Thinking moving to a separate install that's not multisite would be a good idea.

i am sorry but can you explain the confusion?

To put things simply you have a website that is created, powered and controlled by WordPress. WP controls everything to do with registered users - the registration process, logging in, logging out etc. This includes creating and deleting users. This can be replaced by a plugin just like much of WP.

Simple:Press is a forum plugin that sits on top of WP. When you try and delete a user via SP it should simply take you to the WP admin users screen where the delete is actually performed. As I said yesterday I do not see this problem and it is not an SP message.

However, I have now looked through all of the WordPress code and can find that message and it suggests that it will happen if you are using the multi-site (MS) version of WordPress. That does suggest that our redirect to the WP user deletion page needs to be checking for this as well and I will open a ticket to get that done. Personally I do not know where you delete users in the MS version but my colleague almost certainly knows.

As to the question of moving the forum to a sub-domain then yes - you can do that - but you will need to move the users as well which might not be what you want.

I've been confused about the members since I installed the forum last year.  I thought is was because I had installed SP several years ago and then decided to put the new forum on a new domain.   I have two other installs as resources forums (not very active) and don't remember any of these problems.

So when I installed SP again last year, I noticed that there were already a few members, thought maybe from the old install.    Then I did "something" the other night as I got ready to invite a test user and all of a sudden more users from the blog showed up in SP.

The test user could sign up, but wasn't in any group, so I looked at mapping.

As you can tell, I don't have much of a clue and I've wasted endless hours in a secret Facebook group discussing the clear cutting of the Joshua Tree forest in Arizona:
http://highdesertdirt.com/blog.....-massacre/

We're hoping to involve people like Bono from U2 (Joshua Tree album) as well as world renowned plant and animal experts and of course politicians, so I'd rather be safe than sorry and just go to a sub domain.  Especially since I also have to completely redesign the blog and I don't want to mess up the forum in the process.

Running multisite has been challenging with so many plugins either not working or interfering, I might just get rid of it.

But the forum is a priority right now, so I'll go the subdomain route.  I have NO members for the forum that I want to keep, just want to delete the old members and get a fresh start ASAP.

Well good luck. I have to say I am not an MS fan myself...
