Support Forum
Hi,
I'm trying to test what happens on the forum when I change member levels in Wishlist Member.
I've got each member level associated with it's own WP role (Full, Free and Partner).
And each WP role mapped to its own user group in SP with the same name (please see attachment...I hope it's clear enough).
When I move a member to a new membership level, I was hoping they would change user group, but this doesn't seem to be happening. They are staying in the user group they were initially in. The WP role changes but not the user group in SP.
Should the change happen automatically? Is there perhaps a lag time like the 1 hour lag for forum stats to update?
Thanks
Sorry that took a while but I have been running some test scenarios here and I don't have any problems. Subsequent movement between user groups is automatic - as expected.
So - perhaps the first thing to do would be for you to talk me through exactly where and how you are changing their WP role...
By the way - no lag involved. These changes are triggered by the WordPress hook system that basically sends a message out to say something has changed which gives plugins the opportunity to run code on the back of it.
As to your duel user group question - if both user groups are assigned to a forum then the user in both of them gets the best permissions of the two on each individual one. So - most open permission will prevail.

are you using forum ranks? and when reaching a rank, is a user auto assigned to new user group?

Hi Yellow Swordfish, I set up new WP roles using the Role Manager plugin. I created 3 new roles - free, full and partner.
I'm using Wishlist, and have 3 membership levels - free, full and partner too.
In the Manage Membership Levels screen in Wishlist, I've assigned a unique WP role to each level - the WP role full to full members and so on.
When someone registers for the first time, the role is assigned fine.
I've assumed when you move a member from one level to a new membership level, their role will change too.
However, perhaps not. I believe you guys use Wishlist. Have you come across this problem?
I'm going to check with WL support, but just found this plugin http://wishlistmemberplugins.c.....extension/ which suggests the role doesn't change with a change in membership level.
To Mr Papa, I'm not using forum ranks at the moment.
Thanks
Easy enough to check. Change your WishList members level and then look at their user record in WP (or from the WL members listing) That will tell you the WP role they have set.
We do have a codex article describing how best to set this up using Wishlist which may be of interest: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ip-plugin/

I'm pretty sure I've got things set up like that already. That page mentions it only works for new users though, and I've found something in Wishlist's knowledge base that says,
If you place a Member into a different Membership Level that has a different Role than the previous Membership Level then the Member will retain their original Role unless they are manually changed.
I'll see if Wishlist support confirms this and let you know. Cheers
