I have a number of users who are mysteriously receiving an email every time someone posts. I have checked their profile settings and they are not subscribed. Is there anything to check or do? It is driving a few crazy.

Emails are only sent following forum posts to either those that are subscribed or those that are forum admins and have the email notifications turned on. There is no other mechanism.
So - if we assume the 'number of users' are not forum admins then surely they must be subscribed. So - how did you check their forum profile settings? Might they be subscribed to a whole forum instead of the odd topic?

Thanks and this person is not an administrator, so good assumption. As an admin, I went and clicked on his profile, then clicked edit profile and as you can see by the screenshots he's not subscribed to anything I can see. Is there somewhere else I should be checking instead?

One other possibility. I notice he is watching some of the more popular topics. It does say he won't get notifications, but maybe this is a clue?

isn't there a setting for the forums where you can make it so that members get auto subscribed to threads they post in? I thought I saw that setting some where, but can't seem to find it now

No - only Admins and Subscriptions, No other mechanisms for doing so.
if it were just one person I would wonder about a small data corruption in the members record but as it is multiple people then that is unlikely I think.
Can you see if there is anything common in these users emails? Do they only get them from one forum? Do they get them from all? Were they ever subscribed to these at one time? Anything noticeable...?

Nothing I can see, and I've looked. We did hire a service to export/import Vanilla forums to SP and there have been a number of glitches in the process, so anything is suspect. If I were to ask my IT guy to look at the database for the solution, where would I point him to solve this problem?

I have looked and there is nothing common in the emails.
Here's another one. Several users have reported they they originally signed up for forums to view all, are receiving them properly, but when they go to their profiles to change their settings, nothing is selected and it appears they have not subscribed to anything.
So somehow, this data has gone missing. Does it tie to the login name or the display name? We have had issues with display names not properly tying to login names that we're sorting out.

are they looking at the subscribe forums menu in the profile? its different from subscribed topics... two different menus... would be pointless to list every topic in a subscribed forum... sort of appears so from images, but double checking since watches was mentioned also which has no emails..
just ran a quick test and the subscribe/unsubscribe forum is working on couple test sites...
this is latest 5.4.2 SP and subscription plugin version 1.4, right?
