Various Glitches

Got some weird behavior that's started on my forums in the past few days.

Reports of a variety of glitches including:

  • Double spacing when hitting enter (ads an extra paragraph)
  • Posts that preview correctly get replaced by the previous posters reply
  • Posts freezing up during edit (especially if quote is involved)
  • inserting a pic works, but a new add-dialogue opens the moment it's added
  • Error when trying to post saying "Unable to save.No topic post has been entered and post cannot be saved"

The error seems to occur across all browsers. It also happens on both desktop & mobile devices.

I'm trying to narrow down whether it may be related to a WP plugin but I don't recall updating any plugins this week and certainly haven't added any new ones

I think I've tracked this down to a possible conflict with the NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster plugin which is a huge problem for me because I rely heavily on this plugin to auto post to twitter/FB/Tumblr when I add new articles to the site. A high % of my site traffic comes from social media so I can't do without this.

Any suggestions?

what does the plugin do?  and what is it actually doing on the forum page?  is it blithely loading its stuff everywhere?

If its casting its lot across every page on the site when its not needed, then about the best suggestion would be to get a plugin called Plugin Organizer which can allow you to disable plugins on specific pages when its not needed...

I've sent an email to the NextScripts people to see if they can shed any light on the issue.

It auto posts my new WP posts to social media. It doesn't SEEM like it should do anything on the front end. I know since the update there's an option to have it search for social media responses and (I think) integrate them to your posts comments but I have that disabled

not to be critical, but the author probably just loaded the js and what not on every page...

did you try that plugin organizer to disable it on the forum page?  while waiting for his response...

This is the response I just got. Not very helpful!

Our plugin works only in the admin panel and does not cause such issues. The most common reason for this is the amount of memory allowed for PHP on your server. Please check and make sure it's not 32M or less. You need at least 64M, but if you have other plugins 128M or even 256M is recommended.

Our server is optomised for wordpress hosting so it's not going to be a memory issue. Besides, how would memory problems cause double spacing when a user hits enter while typing a post??

No connection at all.
So - if you deactivate this plugin does all this odd behaviour go away?
And... easy enough to determine what scripts are getting loaded on the front and back ends just by viewing the html source and searching...

yes, deactivating the plugin fixes the issues, activating it brings the issues back

I can't make any sense whatsoever of that plugin organzier you mentioned.

I've tried looking at a forum page source code but I can't see anything that looks obviously related to the nextscripts plugin
