Support Forum
Hello - today I once again performed a restore to an alternate location of a production site running Simple-Press, using Vaultpress. The purpose was to create a fresh test site on a new host.
Each time I've done this kind of restore I noticed that certain SP required folders don't get created at the restored site, and I believe I now know why - they are empty.
I believe the reason for this is that at the time of the backup, they were empty and vaultpress is either not backing them up or not restoring them because of this.
In my case the affected folders were:
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-avatar-pool
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-custom-icons
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/simple-press
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/sp-plugins
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-language/sp-themes
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-cache
/wp-content/sp-resources//forum-feature-images
/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-file-uploads
Normally the cache folder probably would not be empty since I do use the CSS cache, however I cleared it and turned it off before the backup just to be extra careful.
I manually created these folders, with the correct permissions to resolve the issue. I have also sent a detailed write-up to Vaultpress support to request the fix this is the software and make sure they backup/restore all empty folders within wp-content.
QUESTION FOR SP SUPPORT: To work around this problem, would it hurt to create a dummy.txt empty text file and place in each blank folder to make Vaultpress think the folder needs to be backed up? Would the present of a file like this cause any problems?
[Aside from this issue, I think Vaultpress is the best thing since sliced bread and the only WP backup solution I've ever trusted - and I'm pretty sure I've tried them all. To anyone whose site is important, I hope you are using it and not something else.]
Thanks,
Kelly
its very possible all of those folders will be empty if you dont use the features.. by default, no core data/files is stored there unless you enable the options for them or activate the plugins that use them...
to answer you question, I cannot think of any issue that would occur because of a text file you added those directories...

Yes, I think for many it would not be a big deal for teh folder to be missing, for instance the language-related ones. But cache, forum featured images etc - that stuff I will have later so I just wanted to disclose this quirk in Vaultpress and advise that I reported it to them. Their issue could affect other plugins in the future that have similar resource area usages.
Thanks,
Kelly
just edit that path and change it to have one /... I will go and verify that the install doesnt have that there...
