keep in mind that simple press is a plugin for WordPress... as such we are highly dependent on it for lots of information including users... so if you move to a site with new or different users, how we would we reference the posts to users???

if you have all the same users between sites... and the wp page id for the two sites is the same, you can try moving over the forum tables...  you will also have to move any wp user meta data you wish to retain...  its a bit tricky, but possible...

So it begs the question - how are you exporting and then importing the SP DB tables?

Well, I"m just using the mySQL database management - exporting the tables and then importing them through the exact same interface. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the question.

It appears so.

If you would like to give us access to your admin area to look at all of the setup then we are willing to do that. Would need to be an SP Admin account of course...

If you would like us to do that then please PM credentials to both myself and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem. And one of us will take a look for you.

Ok - I am bringing this thread back from PMs to the forum as I think we have gleaned as much as possible now from the site viewing.

I think this is a matter of misleading information from me and misleading information from you. Actually - missing information from both of us would be a better description.

The SQL import into the new site database is failing with errors (the bit you didn't tell me). This is because when you exported the data from the old database you did not include the DROP TABLE command (which is the bit I didn't tell you).

(1) SQL can not insert data into a table if the structure is different. (2) SQL can not insert data into a table if the keys to that data already exist.

You fell foul of both of these rules.

What you need to do is export the forum data (all tables beginning with 'sf') from the old database but include the option to include the DROP table command. When you then import this data to the target database it will remove the current table and recreate it with the data from the export.

When this has completed and assuming all went well - and it should do - IF the source database was at 4.5.1 you will be asked to update the forum to 5.1.1. if both databases are at the same version then, of course, you will not be asked to do this.

The only wrinkle here are the WP Users and Usermeta tables which SP needs. But I believe you say hat these are already bought across and are correct so hopefully the user IDs will match the forum members records.

Ah - interesting!  I suppose if I was more savvy with databases, I might have known to do that.  Sorry to cause unnecessary confusion.  What's somewhat funny is, yesterday, I decided just to start over from scratch - since it felt like there wasn't much way to make it work after so many days of hard work on your part.  However, this does give me an alternative and I'm sure somebody will benefit from the many back-and-forth messages.  A learning experience, then!

I will hold off on celebrations until we have seen it working all the same!

So, in my new installation, I'm having a couple of problems.  Because it's possible it is all related to this business, I decided to post a mention of it here.  I posted about one of the other, more general-seeming, issues elsewhere in this forum.

The major issue is I'm getting a "invalid database query" with just about everything I do in the forum.  If I load this page: http://www.deepesthealth.com/f.....est-topic/, for example, it comes up "invalid database query" in a red box at the top.

Perhaps unrelated to this, if a user posts a topic, the topic posts fine and then they are taken to a page that says, "Access denied - you do not have permission to view this page" even if the permissions are set that they can view this page.  Obviously, it's a permissions issue, but I've done everything as the instructions indicate, so I'm not sure how to proceed.  I'm sure it's something simple, so I hope you can guide me in the right direction.

Those are the two major issues not covered in the other posts to this forum.

Thanks for your ongoing support.  Well worth the money.  🙂
