Hello,

When I'm logged in as an admin I see this message when I go to the forum page:

WARNING: The admin postbag contains 263 posts which require removal

1. Why is it a "warning," and

2. Why do they need to be removed?

The posts/topics are not spam.

Or is there a way to turn off the message? I have the Admin Bar plugin installed and active--I thought about deactivating that to kill the message but I'm worried about loosing other things I don't know about. And I don't know if this "warning," really is a warning I need to heed.

Thank you,

Chris

The admins 'post bag' is a list of all the posts that have not been explicitly marked as read and dealt with by an admin. This is really the whole point of the admin bar plugin - to ensure forum admins get to see all of the posts and deal with them.

If they are not marked as read - which the admin bar provides the tools to do - then the list just grows and grows. The main concern here is that it is a bit of a performance hog when the list gets big and will slow down the display - which you don't want to allow to happen. Hence the warning.

If you are not actually using the Admin Bar for its intended purpose then I would suggest deactivating it to avoid this issue. Or - of course - start t use it for its main purpose. Either way you should clear out the current stored list - which you can do from the admin bar itself when you open the unread post list.

Thank you,

I do not want to manage every post, topic or thread on the forum.

I want users to use it and not require admin actions for these things.

I deactivated the Admin Bar plugin.

Related to this (I believe), how do I get the huge box of "A user has edited the post..." messages to go away? The box takes up the top 60% of my monitor. And I don't need to be notified of each edit.

Thank you,

Chris

its an option you have enabled... go to forum - admins - global admin options and you can turn off those notifications...

This warning suddenly showed up on our forum too.  I have never seen anything in my admin toolbar for the S:P forum, so couldn't remove any posts.

I figured that the plug-in might be corrupted, so I deactivated and deleted it.  I made sure to delete the plug-in folder as well (via FTP), then uploaded the zip file for the plug-in again and activated it.

I'm still seeing the warning, but nothing has changed on my admin toolbar so that I can deal with it.  ??

Here is a link to our forum: http://www.elsaelsa.com/forum - Thank you in advance for any light you might be able to shed on this mystery.

You must surely have the Simple:Press 'Admin Bar' plugin enabled... if you have it enabled the postbag starts to build a list of all new posts. But if you are not displaying the bar and therefore not using the bar to reduce the postbag list then it builds up until it shows a warning - which is shown largely, by the way, because letting it build up can have a detrimental effect on performance.

So - you have the plugin active and it is accumulating posts but it sounds like you are not showing it - forum admin > Admins > Your Admin Options to turn it on, display it and use it.

Once you have it showing up there is also a button to clear out the contents...

Thank you very much!  Must have missed that in the instructions somewhere along the way.  I'm seeing how to empty it now.

there is a link in the upper right of the admin bar area that will clear it...  if you are not using the admin, then toggle the option in the admin options which will clear it...  but if not using the admin bar, you should disable that option or the plugin...
