Support Forum
Our users running into an issue with updating their profile, specifically the URL for their website under Edit Profile. Once they entered a URL they can no longer change it, it sticks to the original value. However, it does update in the backend. Though updating it in the backend also doesn't change it under the forum profile.
I'd customized some things over the years, all documented here in the forum. So I went through my old topics here but couldn't find anything that pertains to this issue, all the previous customization had already been undone and/or removed or was never implemented in the first place (never used BuddyPress for example; also User Profiles Made Easy was removed a while ago).
First thing I tried was to switch the theme. I am using a child theme for Default. So I switched to the parent theme. That resulted in another issue: the forum page automatically reloads after a few seconds and stays blank. This happens with the CSS Only Theme as well. Switching back to Default Child "resolves" that issue. So there's something fishy right here, I assume that may be connected to the main issue.
I am using Simple Press 5.7.4, Build 14760 and all plugins are current.
There are some entries in the error log, though they don't seem to correlate with the issue, posting them anyway:
Nonce Security Alert

These don't show up though when I edit website URL in my own profile. I've been trying to troubleshoot this for several hours now, to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

Quick update: the reload to blank page is caused by the Wordpress theme we use (it's called Stockholm). We fixed this at some point in the past, fix is in the Default child theme (I think it was turning off the tooltips).
Anyway, I switched our WP theme to Twenty Sixteen, switched SP theme to Default, but website URL still doesn't update under the SP profile, it stays "stuck". All other fields update fine though (First Name, Last Name, Location, etc.).
I know it works here on the support forum so must be something in our install.
so you are talking about profile - edit profile - website field in the profile?
is the full url being added with the schema (the http or https part)?
and when you save it, a blank screen is loaded? shouldnt be any page loaded.. its an ajax update...
with the browser console open, anything reported there for the ajax update? you may have to expand the result...

The blank page turned out to be unrelated, so can be disregard.
But yes, it's profile > edit profile > website. When updating that field, with a full URL, and saving, it states "Profile settings updated" - but it's not. When the profile is reloaded the previous entered URL pops up again. Example: change http://alternatewords.com to http://closefocusstudios.com > "Profile settings updated" > reload > displays http://alternatewords.com again. BUT, the URL field in the Wordpress profile is updated correctly, every time.
Several of our users reported this issue on our site so it's not a browser caching issue, just in case.
The only output in the console is "JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1"
but under console, when you hit update, it must load an ajax process... I want to know the response to that... since you now indicate no page is loading, it will just show up in the console...

The page loads fine. Update works fine. It just doesn't update the "Website". This is what the console shows when I enter a URL:
I've entered "http://closefocusstudios.com" under "Website", reload the profile page and "Website" shows "http://poetryofthemoment.com" again:
Wordpress backend profile is updated correctly though:
having a hard time reading the error in the bottom in red... is it related to watches update? when did that come up? when you hit the save button?
there should be an entry for the profile save ajax action as well when you save... is it not there? would be related to a file admin-ajax.php which is a standard wp file...
what about when you save a different profile menu?

Yes, they are related to watches update. They don't seem to be related to this issue. I just tried again and no errors where displayed.
There is no entry for the profile save ajax action, neither in Firefox nor in Chrome.
All other options and entries work fine, no errors, everything gets updated and stays updated at save. It's only "Website", nothing else - on all user profiles.
not necessarily looking for errors in the console when you hit save, but the ajax response... its not possible for anything to save without the ajax action...
under the console, what are you displaying? you can display things like all, errors, warnings, info, etc... you would want it on all to see the ajax response...

That was all active but HXR wasn't enabled, hence there were no AJAX outputs. This is what I get now:

This is from "Header", or would you need any of the other outputs as well?
