"Welcome back" message gives the wrong user name for some users

Users are being shown a message that says "Welcome back {user}" where {user} is not there name. Here's a thread about it:

It looks like you are using W3 Cache and caching the forum pages. Due to the way the forum works caching should be turned off for it to avoid this issue (and others)
I don't use W3 but there should be a setting to have it ignore all /discussion pages. if you do a search here for cache there should be some examples on setting it up.
