Support Forum
Hi guys,
Seems like I've been here before, but I can't find a past reference to it. Maybe (hopefully) it's a quick fix that you can point to.
Forums are displaying beautifully. But when I click on a topic, I get this:
We're sorry but that page could not be found.
I haven't activated any new plugins and I just tested this about a week or so ago. For some reason, I just can't keep my forums working consistently. http://allaboutchile.com/forum/
Ideas?
Thanks,
Joe
Simple:Press utilises a single WordPress page for display and the generation of the data is dynamically created on demand. The URL's make use of what WordPress calls 'rewrite rules' which are literally a set of rules - held in a database record in the options table - that WP uses to resolve a URL request.
When Simple:Press is first installed the necessary rules are added to the base WP rules using the proper method that WP supplies. We have encountered - quite a while ago - one plugin that also created rules but failed to do it properly which caused the loss of the Simple:Press rules. I honestly can not now remember what it was.
In all probability, your rewrite rules record has become unstable, corrupted or has been rebuilt incorrectly. If this happens regularly then I would suspect the latter.
Perform the following:
- Go to the WordPress Admin > Settings > Permalinks and update them without making a change.
- Go to the Forum Admin > Integration > Page and Pemralink.
- Make sure that the correct page is selected in the top and of so click on the update button at the bottom of the form even of you change nothing.
- Finally - click on the Update Forum permalink button in the middle of the form.
This will rebuild the rewrite rules and should resolve the problem, If it does not resolve things then you almost certainly do have something active that is causing the rules to regularly flush and not be rebuilt properly.
