Support Forum
I have a program that's connected with my forum and I want people to be able to ask me questions in the forum about what we do in the program. In order to make it easier for me to answer everyone's questions I want to divide the "Ask Maureen a Question" forum into 7 different subforms or topics (we don't really know the difference between the two).
For example we'd like to have:
"All Maureen a Question" (with a description of what this is about)
Module 1 (with that week's title)
Module 2 (with that week's title)
Module 3 " "
Module 4 " "
etc.
We only want to allow members to make posts in the 7 subforums (Modules). We don't want them to create there own topics or edit the subforums (Modules) that we make. Can you please send us suggestions on the best way to do this...
I'll attach a screen shot of the way it looks now (not what we want) with the Ask Maureen A Question field appearing at both the top and bottom with the description of this forum at the bottom. We're not sure why this is happening. We just want "Ask Maureen a Question" and description at the top and the 7 Modules below that as subforums.
Thank you for your help.
think you pretty much have it right... create a parent forum for main topic (ie Ask Maureen a Question)... you can set the permission for folks such that they can create topics and replies... when folks ask a question, you answer it there in the topic...
then for the modules, guess it matters how many you will have and what the life of them will be... are they static in nature? or really just something you would post as information for folks...is this module a single post or a series of posts?
are these modules you post in response to questions in the forum or just topics you add?
If in response, you could post them as topics in the same main forum, but lock them from replies... so your modules would be interspersed wtih questions...
if they are indeed a series of posts, then you could make them subforums that only have users with read only permissions... then you post and they read... this could get unwieldy if have essentially unlimited number of modules... if this is the case, then I would create a subforum under the main forum and call it modules... again users only get read permissions... then you post topics in the modules subforum for each module you create...
hope that helps... probably need a better description of what you want to accomplish if that doesnt answer the mail...
