Support Forum
I'm not going to waste my time explaining why the support I've received in this thread is terrible. If I do, you are going to argue with what I write like you have been so far, and you're going to keep thinking you're awesome and I'll just get more upset. I've dealt with "support" like this before, and I'm just not going to go down that path. It's not a big deal. I get it -- you don't want to be helpful. That's fine. Give me my money back and we'll part ways.
So I ask again, how do I request a refund?
I think I am asking the same question that Daniel Hatfield has ... Let me ask it a different way.
In the previous versions of SPF there was a function in components called "Uploads"
In that section there was a feature called "Media Files" where we set the type of file allowed to be uploaded by users to imbed into posts.
When a user wanted to insert an image they click on Insert / Edit Image and get the Screen that also allowed them to get to this function to upload an image.
So you are saying that this feature of a user being able to view and manage previous image uploads is gone!
I thought it was a good feature.. it enabled a user to post the same image in another post with out uploading it again.
I uploaded the upload plugin - see it is at the bottom of a post..
Neto, yes, we understand the discussion regarding that old 4.5 file manager... We got tired of getting complaints about it from the vast majority of users and perhaps more importantly, fixing security holes in it (was 3rd party app)... so it was removed in 5.0 for a much simpler file uploader vs file manager... Overwhelmingly it has been a popular change because most folks did not like all the button clicks and moving around it took to do stuff... of course, a smaller percentage want the power that file manager gave you versus a simple uploader...
So, as mentioned, we have a ticket currently open to add in a file browser for uploaded files to bring back some of the flexibility for those users wanting that extra capability... we are hoping it makes it into 5.1 (likely as another plugin) but cannot promise at this point...

When I first started using SPF in 09 I did not like the file manager but got used to it. My active forum is still on the previous version and I have some I-Pad users that complain that they cannot upload images using the file manager so the simpler upload process is a welcome change.
Question. When I upgrade will it affect previous posts that were uploaded to a post using the file manager?
Actually the reason your iPad users can not use the file manager is because you can not run TinyMCE on mobile devices and the old File Manager only worked with TinyMCE. The reason you can not use TinyMCE on mobile devices is actually a current restriction of mobile browsers none of which, when I last checked, fully support the protocols needed. As these protocols are considered browser standards we are al hoping that they will start to support them soon.
The new V5 uploader is available for all editors - another plus in its favour.
The answer to your actual question is no - there will be no detrimental effect on previous posts with uploaded items. We have not changed the methods of storage.
It does look like a tool to browse existing uploaded items and inser them in new posts will make it into 5.1 as well so that's good news. At least - that is the plan!
