Hi - I'm running the latest version of simple:press on a fully updated WP site running the 'Hornet' theme.

The problem we suddenly seem to have is that logging in to the forum is fine, but immediately on any move movement the whole screen goes blank and is irrecoverable.

It seems on reflection to be associated with moving over linked text...?

Is see these messages:

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

Hey Gareth,

Firstly if something 'suddenly started happening', I'd say something must have changed. Any new plugins installed, updates occurred or custom code added around the time you started noticing this? It definitely looks like a jquery conflict of some type.

Although I can't access the forum this seems to be a site wide conflict so I would say it's probably nothing to do with Simple:Press, it's more likely the forum is just a noticeable casualty. Every page I've looked at throws the error:

SyntaxError: expected expression, got '<'

referencing 'custom_js.js:7:1'.

I don't recognise most of those entries from coming from SP or WordPress itself I have to say. So = yes perhaps something new.

Are you using wp3 total cache (which has in some circumstances shown this behaviour) or, perhaps the woocommerce plugin?

Thanks for the notes - always appreciate expert knowledge.

Deactivated WooCommerce but that makes no difference.

I must admit I didn't realise the errors were sitewide as the page actually only goes blank when you move over text links in simple:press and not on any other text links or other items elsewhere on the site.

I don't know if that helps at all ?

I'll continue looking at plugins but if you know of any ways in which simple:press text links are different from basic on-page linking elsewhere that would be really helpful... or if it triggers any ideas on narrowing down what might be going on.

Cheers

Gareth

I have this vague memory that the woocommerce issue was a matter of which plugin was activated first (and it might have been woocommerce and our own plupload file uploader plugin but I can not swear to it) but i could be wrong and if you have deactivated and tried it then that is probably a red herring.

It does rather sound like a javascript event (hover?) is working on the links and I don't recall us having any of those. Is it ALL links or just some of them? And any wp plugins active that might do something like this to links? I.e., take some action upon hover?

It's strange - it's only the links in the forum element itself: search, login, forum titles, topic titles, etc - nothing else on the page - not the sidebar widgets, menu items, footer items or other links in body text - only within the forum 'panel' itself.

Keeping looking! 🙂

Did you find anything?

Not yet - have tried disabling each and every plugin. Updated theme etc.

Am going to check with the hosting company as they're pretty good at deciphering error messages, see if they can pinpoint it.

Sorted!

spFunctions.php - change tooltips value to FALSE.

🙂

Thanks so much for the input and tips - much appreciated.

Damn! The one thing I didn't think of. So you must have another tooltip library active fighting for precedence. Which is exactly why we offer the switch of course! Sorry I missed it. Good find.
