OK - so we might be close to figuring this.
Do you have your membership mapped to Simple:Press User Groups? Or - can I assume that you have at least a default 'members' group for all new users.
If you did NOT log in using the new user you created earlier - can you please go to the forum admin > User Groups > Manage User Groups. Find the user Group that new members should be assigned into and click on 'Show/Hide Members'.
Is that new user ion the list?
If you DID log in using that new user account can you please make a new one and then perform the above actions? It does need to be a user who is registered but never logged in.

aMember creates the members in the database automatically after the verification email is approved. The ability to signup in wordpress is disabled by aMember unless you talking about creating an account in admin of WordPress?
aMember also updates the Simple Press Database

They actually have an option or setting like that??? to update the sp database?? wow, strange... any clue what it does?
but yes, I was talking about from the wp user admin panel... creating a user there and seeing if it did what you wanted vice having amember create it...
when a wp user is created, a certain series of hooks/actions are fired so that plugins can know there is a new user... we use those standard hooks/actions to initialize some user data for simple press... we dont know if amember is firing those standard hooks/actions so that plugins can do their thing.. creating the dummy user in the wp admin would help answer that question... maybe that is what that update sp database option, is but frankly, have never seen it before and dont know what it is updating...
also, can we still get a screenshot of the forum - usergroups - map users to user groups admin panel that we have been asking for???
