I am trying to import my Mingle forums into Simple Press. When it starts importing it gets through the users and once it gets to foums it stalls then returns a 500 internal server error.

"Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mobibookz.co and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I asked my host to look at the error log and they have found that memory has been exceeded. It seems that 64 MB of the memory limit in php.ini has been used which caused this issue. I have asked for them to up my memory limit, but have not heard back. I was wondering if anyone on here had any ideas on how to address this issue.

I can't say I am that surprised. Especially if you have a lot of other plugins perhaps and a busy theme. Even WordPress itself these days wants to grab more than 64MB. Hopefully your host will come through for you

Well my host upped my limit to 128 and I am still getting an internal server error when I try to import my Mingle forum. Now I have no idea what to do.

It is under a thousand probably. You can see it here: http://mobibookz.co/forum/

Even when my 64mb was upped to 128 I still got an internal server error. How much memory does this plugin require? As most Wordpress installations are 32 to 64, so that would make this plugin non functional to the majority of Wordpress users.

Is there some way to manually copy over Mingle's posts?

Manually copying would be long, hard and prone to error. There is more than just copying over data.

The notion that most WP installs can be 32MB to 64MB is not really accurate. Many are, I grant you, 64MB by default. But for any task that WP thinks might need more it actually tries to allocate 256MB and with many hosts will get away with doing that.

We are running with 128MB here but a month ago, before we changed hosts, we had 64MB and had been running with that for a long, long time.

I suspect your problem is possibly connected to data. Maybe a missing, expected row or something orphaned that the importer is not picking up on and is looping trying to find. That would soon consume the memory. I don't know of any such circumstance but until they become visible it is always hard to think of every eventuality. We have had a large number of very successful imports to date after all.

I run SP on several sites with 32MB... and not to contradict Andy, but we actually run on this site with 48MB (had changed it back after moving hosts) because of a few plugins we run....
