i've read bits and pieces over the years on how to integrate ads and google adsense in a variety of ways - any plans for a plugin to handle the work for us?  that'd help qualify the plugin subscription to "literally pay for itself" :)

The main issue as I see it with ads is that everyone has a different place that they want to put them or different sizes they want to use. Also I have seen requests for ads showing to guests and not to members. There are just too many different ways that someone wants to show an ad that one plugin really can't handle that.

A plugin could be written that echo's out or displays raw ad code that you create but that would only give you one type or size of ad to display. If you wanted to display another size ad then that may require another plugin.

It would also require that you have a custom theme where you would enter the function for the display of the ad so it can't be an out of the box plugin like some others are (subscriptions, PM's, etc) that don't require a custom SP theme.

Not that something could be created to give one an easier way to display an add but I don't see how it could handle all the different scenarios people want.

Are you looking at adding some specific ads somewhere yourself? There may be easier ways for you to do it than using a SP plugin.

not sure how a plugin would help here, frankly... in fact, it might limit the ability of where to put it...

Just grab your adsense code (the js) and insert into one of the sp template files where you want it to show... If you need some special conditions, you can add some php around it for checks...

If we put it in a plugin, no way we could give you that flexibility to put it anywhere... we would have to hand pick a few places...

If you would like some place special to put it and are unsure, please feel free to ask and we can help you do it...
