Well, I am not really counting on IE 10.  I consider it a marketing gimick.  IE 10 is tightly integrated with Windows 8.  Users will not benefit much without upgrading to Windows 8. Microsoft is never going to stop the bullshit of integrting their browsers with Windows, even though they were sued and lost in Europe.  Also I am pretty sure Windows 8 will be same story as Vista.  Big bangs marketing to find later Vista was buggy crap.  Vista was intermediate release before a stable Windows 7 version.  Same happened with Windows Me before Windows 2000.  I expect same will be for Windows 8, then Windows 9 will be a stable product.  Many users will not upgrade to Windows 8 because of past history of Microsoft crap, thereffore IE 10 will not be of much use without Windows 8.

could be... they certainly like to buck convention...

but I can say the preview versions I have used with Windows 7, have been noticeable and marked improvement in compliance with standards...  without a doubt better than IE 9 and puts IE 8 to shame which is well beyond its 'sell by' date...

Well, now you can get IE10 only by downloading the pre-release version of Windows 8 :-)   I do not want to install Windows 8 and later I have to downgrade my system from Dell supplied recovery disk.  It had bitten me twice, once wiith WIN ME then Vista.  My take home message is, Microsoft always release a buggy crap after one stable version.  It is to get users feed back and make improvments in the next stable release.  I will keep my ears open for Windows 8/IE10 but I am certain 3 months after release, it will be decalred as a buggy system, and people will wait for Windows 9 in 2014.

yes, the last platform release was only Windows 8... but the beta and RC are supposed to support Windows 7...  as will the final released version according to MS docs and plans...
