Support Forum
Hi there,
I've been trying to get Disqus to pick up the comments from topic posts but can't get it to work. The stock comments system works but not Disqus. Since Disqus syncs with the native comment system I was hoping this would work, has anyone out there got them working together?
Cheers!
we have had one or two requests for disqus but dont know of anyone using it with simple press... since I dont know how disqus works, bear with me here...
are you using the blog linking plugin for SP? It can hook the forum posts into your comments (I believe - Andy can add more in AM)... maybe then you can get disqus to get the forum posts from the wp comments? purely hypothetical... and maybe all wet... but worth a shot...

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes I'm using the blog linking plugin for SP, the process you've outlined is essentially what I hope would happen but unfortunately it doesn't for some reason.
Without Disqus, the forum posts are updated onto the WP comments just fine. I can see them in the comments database. However, Disqus doesn't pick these up once they're there, not sure why since its meant to.
I realize you can't offer support for their plugin hehe but I was hoping to find someone here who got it to work.
I will keep trying Thanks again,
Juan
okay, thanks for the info... Andy will be by in the morning and may be able to offer more insight...
do you know how disqus hooks into wp comments? maybe just some hook needs to be fired...

We do not actually create new comment records so I think you are mistaken here. Forum posts are shown in the blog post comments dynamically sourced from the forum posts table.
And that is really the heart of the problem. Because Simple:Press physically creates nothing in the comments table then any hook that a plugin like Disqus might use is never fired. It would be interesting to know what hooks it does use because we could probably hook it into our own blog linking hooks to emulate the WP comment creation.
If you can give me a link to the Disqus plugin in question I can take a look although I can not promise when...

No problem,
Here's the link: http://www.disqus.com Would love to get these to cooperate so please let me know if you get the chance to look at it.
Thanks so much.
Sorry :S I'm confused, and obviously a bit slow. Thanks so much for your response and patience though!
I hope this is the one you mean: http://wordpress.org/plugins/d.....nt-system/
:S
Thanks again,
Juan
Sure thing.
I've looked around at how it works but I don't really understand most of it.
What I've gathered is that Disqus creates a bunch of custom fields for each post, one of them is a unique identifier: dsq_thread_id. It uses these custom fields and makes a 'data store' with all the info for each comment and post. It then uses a script to fetch the comments from this 'data store' and render them server side.
This is what I gather from this page: http://problem-with-post-edit-.....ronization
However, all I really know is that when someone makes a comment on Disqus, it also ends up listed in the same place the rest of the comments are listed. So, when I deactivate Disqus, all of the comments are still on my blog.
