Support Forum
Hello again,
I've installed the blog linking plugin. All of my blog posts have been made with a visual composer (basically loads of shortcodes). The forum topics show these blog posts as blank. I've tested out a plain html blog post and that works fine.
Do you know if there's any way to get my blog posts created with visual composer to show properly in the forum topics? Or is the only solution to create my blog articles without the VC?
Many thanks.
I have to say whenever I hear the term 'Visual Composer' these days I tend to shudder! We seem to have seen a lot of problems with this of late and I do, personally, believe that the amount of stuff it loads on each page is way, way out of proportion. But that is personal...
You need to go to the forum admin > options > content settings and set up any shortcodes that you want to allow users (including yourself) to use in forum posts. By default all shortcodes are thrown out because they allow a user to insert stuff that may not be wanted or, itself, allowed.
I have never actually tried shortcodes linked from a blog post but in theory it should work - it goes through the same save and display code after all.
The popup help on that admin panel should tell you what you need to do.

This might be the same issue I am facing. I am using the Divi builder. When I allow all shortcodes on SimplePress I get the whole page in the forum post, including all the crap such as buttons, sidebars, menus, etc. But when I try to allow the shortcodes that I want, i.e., the text shortcode, I don't get anything to show. The settings page refers to WP shortcodes. Does this include third party shortcodes? They do seem to be picked up when I allow all, but not when I selectively allow one.
The bottom line is that any shortcode explicitly defined in the SP Admin shortcode list should function. There are probably caveats to that. An example possibility might be a shortcode that is dependent upon another shortcode (if that can happen). Or a shortcode defined by it's author to only function is a specific location or environment.
I honestly do not know anything about Visual Composer except what I have been told on the forums here as it does crop up from time to time. But... anything that outputs proper HTML and passes the various filters (mainly WordPress defined) should function. Although the allowed tags in a forum post are not as extensive as those allowed in a blog post - for obvious reasons.
Do the authors provide a possible filter that can be used to strip out the special stuff and just be left with the actual text content?
