Blog Post Linking doesn't work anymore

Well, when you upgrade the blog linking feature is suddenly gone.

So I had to figure out that I needed to download it from your download page.

But then, where to put it?

I had to create a folder named "forum-plugins" inside the folder "resources". In that folder (directory) I placed the unzipped "blog-linking" folder that I downloaded.

Then I activated it and in the options I checked everything off. So I see the

Are there specific instructions somewhere I'm missing?

Looks good, right? But then this (when you select "view topic in forum"):

that is wrong location...  unless you changed the default location on forum - integration - storage locations...  but even so, that is a bad place to put them as they will be lost when you upgrade simple press as the wp updater removes the current plugin before updating...

by default, they are stored in:

wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins

you really want to store them somewhere out side of the plugins/simple-press for the reason I stated above...

sorry, the images look bit out of alignment with the text...  you are getting the access denied when clicking on the link in the wp blog post?

if so,what is the url for the link?  how does it compare to the actual url for the topic?  curious because I see single quotes in the title and wondering if that might be throwing it off (it shouldnt but might be bug if so)...  can you try a post title without the quotes? I will test with them here...

if you could provide a link to the blog post, I can check myself and see if any odd encoding...

Thanks. Couple things, though:

1. There is no link in the blog post. Although it says there is one, I had to manually create one b/c it doesn't actually generate one:

http://lessons.bobreynoldsmusi.....hanges-01/

2. Upon upgrade/installation, this directory does not exist (for me): wp-content/sp-resources/

So that's why I created a directory inside "simple-press/resources"

And yes, I did change the default location to match where I put the plugin folder, b/c, like I mentioned, that "sp-resources" folder did not exist.

Strange. I'm sure it's something simple (no pun intended) in the end. It always is.

OK, I've updated the location of the plugins.

They are now in:

http://lessons.bobreynoldsmusi.....m-plugins/

Here is what happens:

1. I create a blog post.

2. At bottom of post I check the boxes to create a forum topic.

3. I publish the post.

4. I visit the post but no such link has been created.

5. I return to the edit post screen and hit the "view topic in forum" button

6. I am greeted with that error/no access message (see screen shot above)

7. I leave the edit post screen and then return to it. This time, the forum link boxes are unchecked, as if I'm starting over and had never created a link the first time.

(Please note, visiting the post in question right now you will see a link to the forum, but I created both the matching forum post and the link from the blog manually.)

no worries that it was not created... some server setups wont allow us permission to do so...  the page you are directed to after upgrade/installation would alert you and say it manually needs to be created..

but you really need to move them out of the plugin or else they will get overwritten by WP on upgrade to the plugin...

I get the same result whether I visit from the discussion link or your forum itself...  or any of your forum topic links...

out of curiosity, I see you are running the yoast seo plugin...  can you check and see that the 'convert ugly permalinks' option or something like that is disabled?

typing at same time... lol...

I may need Andy to weigh in tomorrow on this one... he wrote the blog linking plugin and somethign else may be at work... its been working great for folks but every set up is different...

perhaps you can leave him a plugin list you are running so he can see if any potential issues there...

Yeah, that feature (in Yoast) is disabled. Far as plugins, I use a handful...but they did not pose any conflict to the prior versions of SimplePress.

Not sure about most ofthose as they are new top me.

Let's ask some questions so I can try and get a better handle on this.

  1. Did the forum topic actually get created where it was supposed to be without any noticeable problem?
  2. Assuming yes - does the topic have the link back to the blog post (in the heading)?
  3. Is this repeatable?
  4. Do you now how to look at your database tables?
  5. Do any of the above plugins add/remove anything from the WP edit post page and id so what?

That's enough for starters!

Ok, I'm posting this a second time. Just checked back after replying this morning and my reply is not here. ??

1. No. Though I click the "create link to forum" check box, no link actually gets created. Upon refreshing the post edit page it's as if I didn't just select that option.

4. Not sure (I would have to be hand-held through process).

5. Not sure I understand the question. Like do they add custom fields? All I know is that they all worked before the upgrade to the new forum.

As I mentioned above, I've now got the plugins stored correctly here: http://lessons.bobreynoldsmusi…..m-plugins/ and they are also activated.

Sorry - question 1 was important but you have not really answered it. I was not asking about the link - I was asking about the forum topic. Which then leads to questions 2 and 3.

As to other plugins - surely you must know what they do as you have installed and activated them? If any are adding new items to the edit post/page Wp panels (like the forum form itself) that must be known...
