Support Forum
Nop…. i´m doing something worng…
I choose to use the WP Display name but when i change it from the Buddypress the the name doesnt change in the SP forums….
so you set it to wp display name AND turned off option for users to set it AND updated the form?
not sure what you mean by change it from buddypress??? the option is on forum – profiles- profille options…
now works….
sorry, i promise i tried all the options…
Thanks Mr.Papa for giving me the light,
I think I should learn english…
your English is better than my Spanish!
My four years of Spanish was long time ago…
glad to help.

offtopic…
Why dont you try to talk something on spanish? it would be great

I get to work with my son occasionally – he just finished his 3rd year of Spanish!
well… I think this is a bug, not sure if is a bug from SP, WP or BP…..
Using the BP profiles… and
Is strange but…. when i change the name directly on the WP admin www.mysite.com/wp-admin/profile.php the name changes automatically on the SP forum… but…. if i change the name on the BP profile it doesn´t change on the forum….
Ok…. so i go into the WP profile page and the name appears changed…. but… still not appears on the SP forum…
If I click on that page update profile… THEN the name changes on the forum….
So… basically what happens is that you change the name on the BUDDYPRESS profile, and it changes on the WP profile… but SIMPLE PRESS doesn´t reload the name if you don enter the WP profile and click on UPDATE PROFILE…..
Could this be and option to open a ticked so BP profile can fully integrate without the need of going inside de WP admin?
Thanks and sorry…
Not a bug – unless you want to point the finger at buddypress… That just means that buddypress didnt follow the wp api… and when they updated the wp display name, they didnt fire a standard wp hook to let other plugins know… No way for other wp plugins to know the display name changed if they did their own thing…
at some point, we can perhaps see if buddypress is firing their own hook, but they should really be following the wp api and fire the wp hook… but for now, wont happen until after 5.3.1 gets out and the mobile responsive theme gets into beta…
Hey guys! Thanks for working so hard on this, nice to see all feedback going back and forth throughout this thread..
Anywhoo, I’m suffering from the same thing @joe and @Mr Papa – uploading the plugin (in the correct place, hehe) and BOOM, my site closed the shop. Joe uploaded the screen shot earlier: http://clip2net.com/s/5wnYgm
I saw that you were discussing avatar priorities, is this the issue? Currently, my settings are:
- Uploaded Avatar
- WP Avatars
- Gravatars
- SP Default Avatars
- Avatar Pool
- Remote Avatar
So, the solution for the problem is to change it to use Gravatars on top or..? Hehe, this thing scared the living — out of me when I tried installing it last week.. Haven’t been brave enough to touch it since. Luckily I found this thread full of front line warriors.. ![]()
EDIT: On an entirely different and off-topic note, any suggestions on best practice for @mentions? It’s a pain trying to figure out what user name to tag when SP is showing display names.. any way to display the users @name below the display name?
I am going to have to let Steve (Mr Papa) answer the specific questions on the plugin. Actually – on the mentions plugin as well come to that!
But – I can give some general advice. If anyone ever installs any WordPress plugin – be it a main WP plugin or an SP plugin or whatever – and they lose immediate control of their site or their admin – then all they generally need to do is remove the plugin folder from their server and re-load the site.
If it is an SP plugin, before removing it, check the folder name on the server as it might have had a number appended to it (i.e., ‘buddypress-1’). This is a WP problem we are still trying to sort out and quite simply the number should not be there so removing that in the folder name will usually put things right.

That’s what I did last time (after the initial 14-year-old-girl-panic attack.. hehe). The scare did however refrain my noob ass from trying to install it again, but I guess it’s time to be a man now
Thanks for the note on the numbers! I’ll keep my eyes open for them.
if you are trying to use bp or sp avatars across, then you need to remove wp avatars from your priority… its a bit of a infinite loop circle…
Since the update images don’t show up on the activity stream anymore, just the text. They used to before the update.
