glad its working, but afraid I have no idea what backup tables are... something from another plugin?  or how they would interfere unless they were named the same...

When I looked at my database I had two sets of tables. For example:

wp_bb_meta and vp2_backup_wp_bb_meta

For every table there was a vp2_backup

So I erased all of the vp2_backup tables and I was able to install the plugin.

I get an server error

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@somosguatemala.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Internal 500 server errors are going to be very specific to your environment and not something that can be diagnosed without going to look at the server logs (as the message suggests) and probably your hosting support. But the error logs will usually have further information that may be enough.

They were there because about 4 months ago my website was hacked and it got a virus. I use Vault Press to back my site up. When Vault Press installed the backed up database tables it didn't delete the original tables that were on there. So there were two sets of tables.
