ah good point on the private forums... hadnt thought about that... that is going to be a dilemma... forum permissions wont work over in the bp activity stream...
best solution that comes to mind after 5 mins of thought is an option at the forum level for disabling the activity feed insertion forum wide... gonna have to think on this one...
what do you mean by full post length? buddypress should be excerpting them... are you seeing full length posts in the activity stream?

not seeing full post lengths, was saying I think its fine as excerpts, if it were full posts could be a bit to much if someone starts posting too long of posts, it would crowd the activity feed is what I mean.
"an option at the forum level for disabling the activity feed insertion forum wide"
Would this be an option something like the the forum option to- "Disable forum RSS feed so feed will not be generated"?
oh okay... yes, excerpts...
yes, it would be similar... but I think I actually have a way to do the permission checking... could consider an option too as extra privacy feature...

okay, have put up version 0.7... should handle permissions checking in the activity streams...
js, can you give it a shake?
please note, it will only work for new posts and items in the activity stream... any before this version wont have the right info for the permissions checking... suggest you delete the old items from the stream if they were private...

odd... what activity is that? your personal activity? what about the whole site activity? I assume you have access to that private forum?
and to be sure, did you see my note about it only being effective on NEW forum activity? any existing forum activity before you uploaded the new version may break...

That was the personal activity.. I added the new version and posted in private forum then logged out and signed back in as different user without private forum access and looked at personal activity of user 1. The old private posts didn't break they just didn't get filtered as pointed out with "old". Site-wide activity shows up the same as profile activity... what's interesting is say I have a 3rd user with access to the private forum, those blank activity posts show up with an excerpt because they have the permission to view it.. but I think it would be best if they were entirely left out of the feed because for those that don;t have permission it kind of looks weird to have blank ones..
that's weird... whatever I do, I cannot get any blank ones like your image to show up...
is this a live site or test site?

I've now tried it on a test site and a live site, the test site was a mess so figured maybe it was the environment but it occurs on the other site too but differently, on live site none of the old forum posts show in the feed at all for anyone doesn't matter if they are private or not. The new private forum posts show up blank like picture above in bp profile activity feed ONLY when the drop-down filter is set to "everything" and the user doesn't have access to the private forum. The don't show in site-wide activity feed. Also if the person does have permissions to the private forum they can see the posts thought and that is working fine. Just the one glitch in profiles with filter set to "everything".
first, correct.. none of the old forum posts will show up in the activity stream... its activity, so only new posts will show up....
so just to be sure... in a user's profile, not the logged in user, under activity, when that user cannot see the forum posts due to forum permissions, is when you get the entry? so in essence, its the posts the profile user (not the current user) made that cannot be seen?
tried that but perhaps not in depth enough... will try few more cases... may need a few more users with posts... a bit puzzled by the empty portion too... it should either be there or not... not sure how it gets 'empty'...
not sure about the 'everything' portion though... what happens if you select any of the others? properly not shown? even for the choices of forum topics and forum posts?
