Can't get Post-By-Email to work

And to clarify, I'm sending and receiving emails just fine and dandy to/from each of the addresses created for each of my forums. The problem is clearly not with the emails themselves. Something seems to be wrong with Simple:Press and/or the Post-by-Email plugin settings.

I'm tearing my hair out here...

Well the settings are in those details - POP3 Server (gmail.com) - Port 995 - SSL on - TLS off. And you know the password of course.

But - I have to say - I know nothing about this Google Apps side of things. How they handle moving emails from the Google Apps domain name you are using into the gmail.com side of things I know not and this might be an issue. But the above would be the settings based on those details you have given above.

Well, I have:

Name of Mail Server: gmail.com

Port: 995

Password: correct password

Use TLS: OFF

Use SSL: ON

check for new email interval: 300

And when I click "Test Mail Server Connection" I keep getting the error message:  Connection to mailbox tech-issues (at) ciclubhouse.com failed

{I changed the @ to (at) above to remove the hotlink to that email address.} FYI, that is the email address of the LAST forum in my stack of forums. Not sure if that means anything.

Any other suggestions? This is really making me insane.

Apparently you guys got the plugin to work, so it should be able to work for me. :(

we have quite a few folks using the plugin successfully...   but still appears that the settings for connecting are not correct...

but confused as earlier you said you were not using gmail, but not it appears you are?

also, in above post, you said server was gmail.com...  in the previous table, it was pop.gmail.com...

To clarify, I'm using Google Apps for Business. It is not a gmail account per se, but the name of the mail server is gmail.com, yes. It's another hosting platform (???) for email -- just as one can host email through Bluehost or Godaddy or many other places.

I've tried the settings both with gmail.com, and pop.gmail.com. Also with smtp.gmail.com. None worked.

You said Andy might have some suggestions. Wondering if he does...

Thanks.

Yes, I am hoping Andy can help...  but he is away until tomorrow...  and if its really a configuration issue, ie settings, might be hard... but he will get involved when back...

No suggestions only the same doubts I raised above about not knowing how this Google Apps for Business account feeds into the gmail email server. I have had success retrieving emails from pop.gmail.com in tests but am just not sure how non-gmail specific email addresses would get handled server side. This may well be the issue here but i have no way of knowing for sure.

I'm having issues also but I'm using my personal mail server.  It seems the plugin will not accept a self signed cert in my case but it is also using a different method of SSL auth.  This may have some issues with gmail possibly.

In my case, is there any way to get the plugin to alllow self-signed certs?

The default setting using the php imap routines - and I assume these are being used - should validate OK although it is perhaps the self signed part that is the problem.
Are you code savvy? Would you be up to make a small edit for a test?

I was hoping someone would be able to help me with this problem. I mentioned above that I've tried using a NON-Google Apps for Business email address, and THAT didn't work either.

I'm using an email address hosted by GoDaddy. It does NOT use the slug of the forum as the first part of the address, because this is just to test to see if I can get the damn plugin to work. My understanding is that you do NOT have to use the slug of the forum as the first half of the email address -- please confirm.

These are the settings in Options > Email Settings:

Name of the Mail Server: secureserver.net

Port: 993

Password: [the password for that email address inside GoDaddy]

Use TLS: OFF

Use SSL: ON

Check for new email interval: 300

When I click Test Mail Server Connection, I get the "spinning gear" icon for several minutes. (It's still spinning, so I can't say for sure if the same error message will pop up, but the last several times I tried this I got the same error I was getting when I had the Google Apps emails plugged into my various forums.)

Please help! I REALLY want to make this work!
